Three British scientists shocked the world when they revealed on May 16th, 1985 - 25 years ago - that aerosol chemicals, among other factors, had torn a hole in the ozone layer over the South Pole.
Today, the ozone hole - actually a region of thinned ozone, not actually a pure hole - doesn't make headlines like it used to. The size of the hole has stabilized, thanks to decades of aerosol-banning legislation. But, scientists warn, some danger still remains. First, the good news: Since the 1989 Montreal Protocol banned the use of ozone-depleting chemicals worldwide, the ozone hole has stopped growing. Additionally, the ozone layer is blocking more cancer-causing radiation than any time in a decade because its average thickness has increased, according to a 2006 United Nations report. Atmospheric levels of ozone-depleting chemicals have reached their lowest levels since peaking in the 1990s, and the hole has begun to shrink.
Now the bad news: The ozone layer has also thinned over the North Pole. This thinning is predicted to continue for the next 15 years due to weather-related phenomena that scientists still cannot fully explain, according to the same UN report .

Somebody made a Hole-in-One...
But....but...but......I thought Al Gore said that all of us terrible humans were causing the problem!
It moved to Montecito, California!
Remember, the ozone hole was only over Kinnebunkport.
Now that the Bush family is in Texas there is no need for an ozone hole.
It’s as big as ever, shhh, don’t tell the eco-nut jobs.
The sun creates the ozone hole, the sun destroys the ozone hole. It’s another one of those liberal things that just isn’t true. It has to do with the balance of UV-A and UV-B coming from the sun.
Don’t look at me. I didn’t take it.
obama will save just like he created jobs, stimuated the housing market & protected our country by maintaining a strong nuclear defense...oops were screwed!!
Junk science. The banning of aerosol propellants worked for the south pole but they can’t figure out the north pole problem. If that isn’t the classic case of a casual (not causal) relationship, I never heard one.
The ozone hole didn’t impact enough people. At most a few frogs in Australia got sunburned. The eco-wackos needed something bigger. Much bigger, so they came up with the CO2 scam.
DuPont and others made tons of money on the shift to new refrigerants so a new scam was needed
So don't worry and don't fret, all is still right in liberal-land.
It's all just an agenda driven attempt to quash economic freedom.
Ahhh, but this data is from 2006. How much ozone has been saved or created since the immaculation of the annointed one?
It closed in Nov. 2009. About the same time the ocean levels stopped rising.
Make that Nov. 2008.
“The size of the hole has stabilized, thanks to decades of aerosol-banning legislation.”
Purest conjecture from eco-scientists and eco-loonies collecting fat paychecks and/or the warm fuzzies from a fictional eco-crisis “corrected” by a nonsensical fix.
All the "ozone depleting chemicals" were heavier then air. How did they get up all those miles to perform this chemical process? Answer: It was about destroying an existing market AFTER having setup its replacement quietly in the background, to be forced by new laws. Just like what's happening today.
