BP blocks one of three leaks in oil well

WASHINGTON, May 5 (UPI) -- BP said Wednesday it had capped one of three leaks from its damaged Gulf of Mexico well and it might be able to seal the well in as little as two weeks.

BP Chief Executive Officer Tony Hayward told the Houston Chronicle the company was considering an untested approach he called "top kill," which involves reconfiguring equipment to pump heavy fluids into the well to stop the flow and create a permanent seal. The method involves using the blowout preventer that failed when an explosion crippled the Deepwater Horizon well, triggering a fire that has left 11 employees missing and presumed dead and an estimated 5,000 gallons of oil a day leaking into the gulf.

Previous estimates indicated it would take weeks to months to stem the flow of oil.

Earlier Wednesday, BP issued a statement saying it had stopped the flow of oil from one of three leaks by installing a valve at the end of a broken drill pipe.

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill (R) is seen in an image from NASA's MODIS instrument, southeast of the Mississippi Delta on May 1, 2010.

Two more oil leaks to plug, and BP will foot the bill of the clean-up operation. Big Oil will take a big hit, and Obama is a Big Oil puppet. Remember this: Big Oil is part of the corporate-governmental complex.

Excuse my ignorance, but couldn’t we just suck up all this oil and send it to a refinery?

Good question. Sea water helps break down and disperse oil. The process of going through the sea water also contaminates the oil as it breaks down, thereby making it unfit to refine unless the refinery is re-engineered.

“Nelson, along with Democratic Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez, both of New Jersey, have introduced legislation that would raise the cap to $10 billion and would ensure the new limit applies to the spill.”

Billy Boy, I know you are still lost in space, but back here on Planet Earth, and in the USA (which you are supposedly a Senator of), there is this little thingy called ex-post-facto. Ask a Tea Partier to explain that to you.

Yeah, like oil rises to the top sort of thing and skim it off.

I’ve heard the Democratz have a secret tool, the Monica vacuum.

Too funny (I’m being kind). If BP owned oboze, then two things would happen: (1) AMWR would be openned us for drilling by now. (2) BP would walk away from this mess instead of taking effective action (contrast to obozo).

Obozo is a marx style statist. He wants ALL the power - no sharing with anyone in the private sector.

He wants ALL the power - no sharing with anyone in the private sector.

You get it! He will allow the private sector to be chummy with him as long as it is convenient to him. Once the private sector outlives its usefulness, Obama turns on them.

Thank you.

You are welcome. It is beyond my pay scale to answer questions about the meaning of life, however.

I still think all the oil in the Earth will eventually leak out and the whole world will kinda sink in like a deflated balloon. Then the Earth really will be flat proving Pope Snertius VI was actually right.

LOL! Once again, dense tonight! You do realize that 42 = 6 X 7.

6 and 7 each have special significance in Christianity. This is far more profound than initially thought!

It’s the answer to the question, the ultimate question, the question of life, the universe, and everything.
