Dems fear losing four-decade grip on Pa. seat

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- In what was the late U.S. Rep. John Murtha's western Pennsylvania district - reachable through John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport or John P. Murtha Highway - Democrats watch nervously, hoping his former top aide can hold on to the House seat.

Mark Critz, who worked for Murtha for more than a decade in Pennsylvania, including the past three as district director, is in a fierce fight with Republican businessman Tim Burns in the May 18 special election. The national GOP has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to push Burns' candidacy, sensing a legitimate shot of capturing the seat held for 36 years by Murtha, an ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

A loss would unnerve Democrats, who face the backlash against the party in power typical for a midterm election year, and depress the outlook for the party's other candidates in Pennsylvania, which Barack Obama won easily in 2008.

I want Russell to win the GOP Primary and Burns to win the Special Election. I just want to see a Pubbie in that seat that Murtha and the DemocRATS held for 40 years.

If we win we could christen it the John P. Murtha Memorial Defeat.

What are they sore about? They got a brand new municipal airport that nobody uses and a US Navy amphibious assault ship that no Marine wants to step foot on out of the passing of John Murtha.

Critz is trading on his years with Murtha, Murtha’s record and his popularity with unions (his particular constituency is full of them). It’s going to be tough. Plus people tend to vote for who they know. Stupid logic. The voters knew that Murtha was a douchebag, but because they knew him, they would vote for him time after time. A relative unknown like Burns or even Russell has a very slim chance without a lot of financial backing and any other kind of support they can get.

It is my fervent hope that we win this seat.

However, the Rats have smartly chosen a candidate who knows all the Murtha butt-boys in that district and how to garner their support. The Pork receivers will be lined up to ensure their gravy train doesn’t end.

I wish it wasn’t so, but there it is.

The RCCC has spent $80,000 more on the Burns campaign than the DCCC has spent on Critz. Also, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has given Burns $100,000. He has more money on-hand now than Critz.

This just means that the Conservative element in PA-12 will have to work their butts off, for Burns, during the next 11 days to put him over the top.
IF THE GOP CAN'T TAKE THIS SEAT THIS YEAR, THEY WILL NEVER TAKE IT. C'MON PA FREEPERS; EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIVE IN THE 12TH DISTRICT, VOLUNTEER TO WORK THE NEXT 11 DAYS.

The voters kept Murtha in office because he brought money into the district. The voters gave up their integrity for bennies. Murtha was unique. Anyone else is unproven so it is kind of a level playing field, even for the greedy voters and union thugs of southwestern Pennsylvania.

Other candidates have a shot at the seat in my opinion. Maybe enough of the voters will make a rational decision this time around, especially because the Democrats are so obviously corrupt and, worse, ignore the wishes of their constituents. Everybody knows that Obama's policies have been disastrous to our country, especially our children, grand children, and great grandchildren.

The Democrats will fight like wild animals for this seat. Expect to see them pull out all the stops. Expect busloads of new voters to show up on election day, and truckloads of absentee ballots from every corner of the compass.

O.K., now you've got me pissed off big-time. If this is true, then you and other PA Conservatives need to insist on Ballot Security.

The State of Nevada already has the Secretary of State, U. S. Attorney for Nevada and the FBI laying the ground work to insure there is NO voter fraud this year in Nevada. If they can do that in Nevada, surely you folks in Pennsylvania can do something. If nothing else, organize and put poll watchers at every precinct. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE PA GOP CHAIRMAN.
