Two Weeks After Censoring 'South Park,' Comedy Central Debuts Cartoon Jesus Show

Guess who said this: "In general, comedy in purist form always makes some people uncomfortable." Nope, it wasn't Lenny Bruce or George Carlin. It was Comedy Central's head of original programming Kent Alterman, who was defending the network's new animated show, "JC," which centers on (read: mocks) Jesus Christ.

This, of course, is the same Comedy Central that two weeks ago forbade the show "South Park" from even speaking the name of the Muslim prophet Mohammed for fear of offending that faith's followers. So at Comedy Central, apparently, making people uncomfortable by poking fun at their beliefs is fine. Unless those people are Muslims.

This is nothing revelatory -- the double standard has existed at least since the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten published depictions of Mohammed, sparking worldwide protests. But Comedy Central's unveiling of "JC" a mere 15 days after a heavily censored "South Park" episode went on air serves to drive home just how absurd and offensive to the values of a free society this double standard is.

And they say Republicans are hypocritical.

Hollywood elites are remarkably "brave" when speaking "truth to power", so long as that power doesn't involve Muslims.

They’re only brave when there’s no risk, which is an oxymoron.

Sadly, the lesson of Islam in recent history is that cutting people’s heads off is pretty effective as an intimidation tactic.

I have DiSH Network. One of the things I like about it is that I can set up a "Favorites" list, and when I page through the programming grid, only items in my list are shown. I have a different list for my wife.

Neither of our lists have Comedy Central, MTV, VH1, MSNBC or any other network that does not interest us on our Favorites list. It's like those channels do not exist for us. I don't think i have ever watched Comedy Central. I just wish I didn't have to pay for crap I never watch.

Makes perfect sense to me. The Jesus people will forgive you, and prey for you, while the offended Islamist nutz will blow your butt up. These two Universe-views are each unique in this manner.

I just programmed my cable box to block “Comedy” Central (to join MSNBC and CNN).

The difference between Islam and Christianity is clear. Christians will forgive. Muslims will kill.

Killing is the nature of their religion. You see the first example played out today in Islamic countries. Somali adulterer stoned to death

The example of Mohamed on forgivness Sahih Muslim, Book 17: 4206

There came to him (the Holy Prophet) a woman from Ghamid and said: Allah's Messenger, I have committed adultery, so purify me. He (the Holy Prophet) turned her away. On the following day she said: Allah's Messenger, Why do you turn me away? Perhaps, you turn me away as you turned away Ma'iz. By Allah, I have become pregnant. He said: Well, if you insist upon it, then go away until you give birth to (the child). When she was delivered she came with the child (wrapped) in a rag and said: Here is the child whom I have given birth to. He said: Go away and suckle him until you wean him. When she had weaned him, she came to him (the Holy Prophet) with the child who was holding a piece of bread in his hand. She said: Allah's Apostle, here is he as I have weaned him and he eats food. He (the Holy Prophet) entrusted the child to one of the Muslims and then pronounced punishment. And she was put in a ditch up to her chest and he commanded people and they stoned her. Khalid b Walid came forward with a stone which he flung at her head and there spurted blood on the face of Khalid and so he abused her. Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) heard his (Khalid's) curse that he had huried upon her. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Khalid, be gentle. By Him in Whose Hand is my life, she has made such a repentance that even if a wrongful tax-collector were to repent, he would have been forgiven. Then giving command regarding her, he prayed over her and she was buried.

The example of Jesus on forgivness (John 8:1-11)

But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court, they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. "Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?" They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground. But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court. Straightening up, Jesus said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?" She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more."

Robert Spencer does a good job here explaining Islam - Blogging the Qur’an Start at the bottom.

I believe My Lord and Savior is much to powerful to be worried about some stupid satire on Comedy Central. Is it distasteful and cowardice? Yes, but perhaps somebody will ask the question “Who was Jesus, really?”. He works in mysterious ways.

You mean the show where Mohamad is in a shop with a Jew and they are having tea when all of a sudden Jesus walks in and Mohamad says,”Boy was I wrong”? The audience laughs at the expression on his face and pans out to show Jesus smiling. We can call it “Mo and the Jew”.
