Unless the legislation is written in such a way as to precisely indicate that it applies only to naturalized citizens, i.e., immigrants, it would open the door to stripping natural born citizens of this country of their birthright citizenship.
They need to be very careful with this.
The argument Leiberman made today on Cavuto was that during WWII, even native-born American citizens were stripped of their citizenship if they went to Germany and joined the Nazi army. This Times Square bomber (or any other American citizen that joins a terrorist group) is doing the same thing as an American in WWII joining the German army. A similar law according to him is already on the books, except that it assumes a foreign nation-state would be the declared enemy — and so doesn’t cover the War on Terror as written.
I’d be happy to try them and hang them for treason, myself, but there is no denying they’ve given their allegiance to something other than the USA.

He would have Napalitano classify the Tea Parties as a terrorist organization and then prosecute and strip the citizenship of everyone involved. But he’s not going to bother making threats.

A criminal or Jihadist immigrant can be stripped of his citizenship because he got it via being naturalized. A native born American citizen cannot be stripped of his citizenship. This is what Senator Lieberman means to say.
I have zero problem with these critters getting their citizenship revoked.

The 14th Amendment says clearly, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”
No law adopted by Congress can change that, period. If you want to take away someone’s citizenship, you have to amend the Constitution. A simple act of Congress is insufficient.
A naturalized citizen can join and be for such groups at the Tea Party and be good citizens. I don't see the distinction. But I do see your words of caution are in agreement with mine. We both see the slippery slope.
As should any American who joins a terrorist group that is at war with this country.
However, how would you like to be stripped of your citizenship because sister Janet decides that your local Tea Party group falls within her arbitrary definition of what a "terrorist group" is?

This entire mess rests on our screwy/PC immigration system. It is responsible, as well for creating the problems in Arizona, as its citizens attempt to stem the invasion of the state by illegal aliens.
Latinos and Muslims get first crack at immigration, to appease them and their lobbying interests as ‘legal entrants’. Third world immigrants are typically socialist/democrat voters.
A few years ago USCIS (agency in charge) lost 111,000 files they were to vet for ‘legal residents’ from foreign countries...so they just approved 30,000 instead, with no vetting.
Senator Charles Grassley commented at the time: “It only takes one missing file of somebody with links to a terrorist organization to become an American citizen,” said Grassley, who is chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. “We can’t afford to be handing out citizenship with blinders on.”
Now remember, THIS is the agency who will vet the 20 million aliens that Obama and McCain want to put on a ‘path to citizenship’. The agency is out of control!
Decent immigrants are put in the back of the line. They serve no purpose to push this country into socialism/anarchy.
People keep saying we allow 1 million Legal entries every year...WRONG. It’s closer to 4 million every year...and growing.
Take a look at just what USCIS does EVERY DAY. Last year we gave over a million citizenship, then there are the dozens of visas to suit just about anyone, including terrorists. And remember all those hunreds of thousands of refugees....Haitians, Somalians, etc. who get ‘temp legal status’...those are given out by the State Dept and not even counted in the USCIS numbers.

* process 30,000 applications for immigrant benefits - PER DAY

* Welcome 3500 new permanent residents. PER DAY
Joe don’t stop with revoking citizenship with just terrorists, go up the food chain in left wing American political leaders.

Do you realize how double-edged a sword this is? If you can use this on liberals, what is there to keep it from being used on conservatives?
Everything is a double edged sword when it comes to stopping terrorists, illegals and left wingers who want to destroy this country.
When he became a naturalized citizen, he had to fill out a paper answering some questions
Believe it or not, one of those questions was, "Are you a terrorist?"
He obviously answered "no"
Lying on that document is enough to revoke that citizenship.
