Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced Wednesday he is asking U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to send federal resources to help reform the New Orleans Police Department. Landrieu, standing beside more than a dozen community leaders, said at a news conference that he wants the Justice Department to come in and do an assessment of the NOPD and the criminal justice system.
Landrieu said he anticipates that the federal assessment would eventually result in a consent decree, a move that could mean federal oversight for the troubled department. "It is clear that nothing short of a complete transformation is necessary and essential to ensure safety for the citizens of New Orleans," Landrieu wrote in his letter to Holder.
The Justice Department has eight open civil rights investigations into the conduct of New Orlean police officers, many of them focusing on their actions in the days after Hurricane Katrina. Landrieu's move, however, has no bearing on those criminal investigations.

That’s a start. Here in Houston we had a bunch of New Orleans street-types hanging out and doing their thing after Hurricane Katrina. There was a newspaper article about how in-shock they were when they were seeing 15 to 20 years for felonies (we had Republican judges then)...rather than getting off in a plea bargain for the 18th time. They were mad...some of them had wedding coming up in a couple of weeks - and LOL, they would now miss them.
I’m sure Eric Holder’s DOJ will root out all the corruption in NOPD (NOT).....
hh
Overheard in the police leadership meeting:
We’re incompetent and corrupt. We need help in fixing this. Who’s more incompetent and corrupt than we are?
Silence a few seconds.
Errr, the Federal government?
Right! Call em up and see if we can get them to help us out.
What happened? Did they stop paying her off.
pardon, ...Did they stop paying him off?
I thought everything was fixed there since Nagan had made them a Chocolate City.
Setting NO up for failure and someone to blame, beside, the previous regime.
