I'm normally a "law & order" type myself, former military prosecutor. BUT, I have real problem with no-nocks in the war on drugs, or even nighttime raids. No-nocks have their place in law enforcement - to arrest known violent offenders, not to bust the neighborhood dope guy.
They could have EASILY waited until first thing in the morning and pinched this guy when he went to get the newspaper, or went to work. Instead, they foolishly turned what should have been an incident free arrest, into a firefight in a home that housed young children. It's stupid, in the extreme.
Yours is the smartest post on this thread so far.
No-knock warrants and raids have practically no use law enforcement. For 99.9% of drug raids, you could walk up to the door and knock and go right in and do what you have to do. No-knocks after dark are negligent; negligent because the police are too quick to use the trgger finger. If the police don’t know with 100% certainty that a violent felon waits behind the door, then why do they have to kick the door in at night.
Just wait until the dog that is shot is being held by an 8 year-old; or is protecting the childs bedroom.
Big boys with adult toys can only mean problems and death.
This former commissioned military police officer could not agree with you more.
