If only police were as willing to engage active shooters in schools (see: Columbine) as they are unarmed family pets, maybe all that para-military gear would actually be worthwhile.

Hey, at least they got enough dope for a misdemeanor charge, right?

I edited the story's graphic language. It will be unedited at the link.

Ya notice that none of these police officers looked like police officers?

This is becoming troublesome.

Having once been found guilty for a crime I had nothing to do with, I have no tolerance for cops acting this way. If this happened to me there would be, one way or another, hell to pay for each cop.

They charged the guy with misdemeanor possession and ultimately let him plea down for paraphanalia.

What a bunch of A-holes.

Why does SWAT need to enter a house to arrest someone in the first place? They could wait until the guy comes out and nab him outside, where it is safe. At the door of his car, pull over with cop cars enmasse, at the grocery store, at the video store, heck, why not at his job?

There is no reason for these raids. The danger outweighs the benefit. Said danger being to others in the vicinity and even pets.

Do they get a charge out of shooting their gun at an innocent living being? It’s not like they were going to eat the dog for dinner. Nope, just kill it, cuz they can and their steroids are pushing their aggression.

Besides, is some guy smoking marijuana really worth this effort? Seems like a a lot of resources and manpower for such a dinky charge and a child could well have been injured or killed by an errant shot.

Law enforcement has their job to do but, their are more intelligent ways of overpowering a suspect and these miscreants did not use their heads for anything more than a hat rack.

If they found so little in the way of drugs, I'd LOVE to know what kind of lies were told to get a warrant that would justify a SWAT raid. This wasn't even a no-knock warrant.

I guess they just like getting all geared up to shoot Spot and Buffy. Makes’em feel all manly inside.

Disgusting.

Substitute the word “firearms” in place of “drugs” and you have the future.

As a matter of *unofficial* policy, many police departments routinely kill dogs, even small ones, on general principles. Their logic is that they figure that the most a dog owner can recover in court is $500, which they won’t get if there is *any* reason, including just police testimony, that they felt “threatened”, even by a Dachshund.

This is part of the also unofficial policy of “sue us”, when the police screw up. They smash down the wrong door and roust the people inside, there is no apology, just instructions to sue the city or agency. In any event, there are no repercussions to the police department or its officers directly.

To cops, criminals, or anybody at all...

My dogs are here to protect my daughter. Harm them and I will be forced to assume you intend to harm my daughter. My response will be appropriate since there is no reason for cops to enter my home in such a manner.

Moral of this story? Don’t even think about harming my dogs or my family.

That's what cops do.

I am shocked that these stories still make the news.

This sort of behavior is so widespread, it shouldn't even be reported anymore.

Of course, if that happens, we will have completed the transformation to a police state.

Part of me says that can't happen. Part of me says bring it on and get it over

“Did you shoot my f***ing dog?” Whitworth asks in the video. ”Oh my God, what the fuck did you do that for?”

Mr. Whitworth has not been following the news, evidently. The ritual shooting of canine "found-ins" has become SOP for all SWAT personnel - you know, like standing up for the national anthem.

American-style socialism has plenty of gratuitous brutality; in retrospect, it may be perceived as one of the crueller regimes of these times.

Not as bad as Communist China, of course, but still....

I blame the cops and the user. It’s not that they did the raid, but how it was handled. I’ve seen videos of cops shooting dogs at domestic violence calls and burglery alarms. I don’t see the rampant loons calling for those to be legalized.

What gets me is they had to invent a charge after all that BS of using the swat team and shooting the dogs. Child endangerment, as if the child was going to be harmed by the MJ but not by the frickin' Gestapo actions of the Police.

Hey, all of you FReepers who think you have the right to control people: Do you want to stop sh** like this? Then legalize MJ and leave the fickin' pot heads alone. They hurt no one, not their kids or anyone else. No worse than alcohol and it might even be less damaging then booze. BTW, before some dumb f*** pipes up, no I don't smoke MJ or tobacco either.

The Gestapo have to justify the Millions spent on Swat teams and their equipment so they stage these phony frickin' raids putting many people's lives in danger and many times raiding the wrong house and killing innocent people. War on drugs my a**, more like war on the American public.

ASPCA website:

http://www.aspca.org/fight-animal-cruelty/report-animal-cruelty.html

If the animal was not a threat (in this case it was not), the officers may be charged with animal abuse.
