Jim DeMint is one of the only Republicans in Congress to have earned a higher Fiscal Conservatism rating than Ron Paul in the National Taxpayers Union's most recent grading of the US Congress.

Granted, his rating was only 1% higher, but it's almost unheard-of for any Senators or Representatives to score a higher NTU Fiscal Conservatism rating than Ron Paul (I think that Senator Coburn and Representative Flake were the only others to do so in the most recent cycle).

I expect that DeMint wants a solid ally whom he can count on to vote "NO!" when the Trillion-dollar Deficits are coming down the pike and the squishy RINO "moderates" are selling their votes to the highest bidder. I hope that Rand Paul will be that ally.

He'd better be. It's perfectly okay for Ron Paul to be an independent Republican thorn-in-the-side of the GOP leadership, because Ron Paul has always won his own District without any endorsements from anyone (except for Ronald Reagan back in the early 80s); and 81% of the Republicans in his District support him in that niche. But Rand Paul needs to be more of a Team Player with the Palin/DeMint wing of the Republican Party, because HE OWES THEM!! Big Time!! Fortunately, I think he will be.

Pinging "Allegra" only because she wondered, on another thread, whether or not there were any Republicans-not-named-Paul on whom we could agree; I think I'd like to add Jim DeMint to that list (he seems like a great guy -- honestly, I just hadn't followed his career that closely until more recently). I've even heard some FReepers plugging him for POTUS in 2012; but for now it looks to me like DeMint is doing fine work in the Senate, and so I'll probably stick with the Moose-hunting Hockey Mom, for now.

I’m very happy, with Trey Grayson’s help, to have changed my plans for my vote.

I will be voting for Rand Paul.

I grew up in Ron Paul’s house district, and voted for him many times. I must admit, I was NOT planning on voting for Rand... but, Grayson’s commercials have convinced me.

I just want to know; WHO was it, in his campaign office, that told him running tapes of Rand SPEAKING THE TRUTH ABOUT SOCIAL SECURITY was going to hurt him in a Republican Primary?? That may be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen a politician do since... well, since Ann Throw-Up threw W under the bus on Iraq two weeks after he came to Louisville to help her raise money! Grrrrrrr!!!!
