Today I met several others from our Tea Party group at the Capital in Jefferson City for the Health Care Freedom Act SJR25 Code Blue" Rally. At approximately 9:30 am many vehicles started circling the Capital Complex, honking their horns. The vehicles had signs and banners, were pulling trailers, admonishing the Missouri Senate for allowing a filibuster to continue on SJR 25. They certainly gathered much attention from all around the capital, and inside as even committee meetings went to the windows to view the entourage of Patriot inspired vehicles.
At 10am the Senate convened. The Senate Gallery was full to capacity with people dressed in red, showing their support for health care freedom. The morning session came and went, for two hours debating language such as "may" or "shall" on another bill. As the crowd started realizing, that after an hour and a half, the Health Care Freedom Act wasn't going to be discussed this morning.
The Health Care Freedom Act, as introduced brings to the Missouri Voters a Constitutional Amendment that will not allow anyone to compel residents in Missouri to purchase, against their will, any insurance product under the implied threat or penalty, or pay directly to whom they choose as a provider of health care services.
At noon we all went down to a packed Rotunda for a rally. Sponsor Sen Jane Cunningham spoke about how much the people's voice has had in progressing this bill so quickly. Yet it still in filibuster. Lt Governor Peter Kinder addressed the crowd to a thundering applause when he spoke of his lawsuit against Obama Care. Other Speakers were Sen Chuck Purgason, Sen Jim Lembke, and other sponsors were recognized. Standing applause was in order for all speakers rallying for freedom and sovereignty. Sen Cunningham returned to outline the strategy for passage this afternoon of Health Care Freedom. Because of the filibuster, the Senate had decided to introduce a substitute bill which closely resembled the House Version already passed. But instead of the voters voting on a Constitutional Amendment in November, we would be instead be voting on a change in state statute. There is some disappointment from the relaxed version as it may be more easily challenged in court. But that is the way it stood. And the vote would be in August. Another compromise. Probably to appease liberals who were afraid the polls would be packed with constitutional conservatives in November and they wouldn't get a fair election. W W WAAAAAAAAAh
The Senate went back in session at 2:30. I am proud to report that the Senate Substitute bill PASSED. I don't recall the final tally except 9 clueless, non constitutionally informed Senators voted NO on freedom. Since the Senate Version is different from the House Version which calls for a Constitutional Amendment Ballot issue, the bill will now go to a conference committee for perfection. Then each chamber will vote to accept the conference committee modifications.
This bill is considerably different than the SJR25, but it is workable and can be amended in concurrent sessions now that we have the basis for standing on our sovereign ground. And there is another bill that came out of committee this morning that could strengthen the overall stand against court challenges, which are most certainly going to come. With only 8 days left in the session, time is short. But we have a glass that is more than half full. We should be thankful to all the people and groups who have spent considerable time and monetary resources to fight for State Sovereignty.
I, too, am somewhat disappointed in the compromise language. That aside, now ALL of us must work our tails off to educate all Missouri voters and to encourage them to support the health care freedom act when it is on the ballot on August 3. It's a cinch that the opponents will be working against it; if we want Missourians to have the freedom to accept or reject government-mandated health care, we must work hard so it passes in August.
Thanks for the report, o-man.
Wow—Way to go guys!!
Any photos?
I ran out of the house and forgot my camera. But i think I know someone who took many pictures. There was also a pretty good report on KRCG channel 13 connectmidmissouri.com. Should be able to view the “parade” of “circled wagons”.
