How did he buy a ticket with cash? I thought that cash sales of airline tickets were stopped after 9/11.

You can still buy a ticket with cash at the airport, but usually it’s supposed to set off some type of secondary screening procedure.

Since the guy was a US citizen, I’m assuming that he was considered clear to leave.

I don’t think they were stopped. But buying a one-way ticket for cash was supposed to raise an immediate flag.

If I were a betting man I would say the skids were greased for this guy to fly on the Baraini airline. The aircraft just didn’t get airborne fast enough. The bad guys were betting that our fighters would not shoot down the airliner. Given the present regime that was a sucker’s bet.

Not only did he buy with cash, he bought a ONE-WAY ticket! Another bells and whistles, red flag alarm!

I don’t think it was ever stopped.
But it is suppossed to raise a flag like “this is someone carrying
drugs or dirty money!!!”

Ignorant of this sort of situation, in the mid-1990s, I bought a
couple of one-ways from fly-over country to California.

Since then, when I fly, it’s about a 75 percent chance I’ll get the
“would you mind if we did a bit more of inspection on you?”.

I guess I fit a profile:
caucasian
middle-aged
male
no criminal records or convictions
dressed in decent attire

IIRC, Mr. Mohammed Atta and his buddy arrived late at the airport
(Portland Maine?)on 9-11 and were RUSH through to get them on their plane.

Me, they would have laughed at me and say “sorry, you’ve missed your flight”.

Politically-correct Bravo Sierra.

I’m not getting this at all. I’ve flown to Europe at least 12 times since 9/11. I get screened , I get looked at , shoes off , ID , Passport. In Amsterdam 2 soldiers with machine guns stopped me because I had a lighter in my pocket and once they took my baggage off the plane just..well just because..I have been interrogated at the gate in Amsterdam and one other time made to open up an electronic device I had for my guitar in my baggage. I was FINE with all of this by the way ..BUT..NOW the question is how the f*uck do these characters get tickets for cash , walk in with no baggage , no ID ? 1 way tickets ...
What the hell ?
