Iranian recce aircraft have been checking out US and Coalition vessels on a regular basis. Remember this is international waters. Iranian naval vessels when they venture out into international waters also get checked out. It has been going on for decades.

In NORPAC we had almost 200 flybys in a 2 week period.

On the way back from Gonzo, we did it again. Only this time it was with Midway and the Coral Sea. Had the first reported Backfire runs on us on that cruise...
Shouldn’t we have launched planes to keep them away? I guess I don’t understand why we would let them do that type of flyover- what if they had intentions other than filming? Not that I approve of them being able to film but hey what if they had seriously bad intentions?
