On Sunday, Joseph Sean McVey was arrested at the airport in Asheville, North Carolina. Stopped by police in a rental car lot just after Air Force one had departed the airport, McVey was openly carrying a loaded Springfield XD 40 in a belt-mounted holster.
The press made much of McVey’s request to talk to the President (who had already departed); of the fact that his car was “equipped to resemble a police vehicle,” and especially that he was arrested for the archaic North Carolina common law charge of “going armed to the terror of the public.”
Clearly, McVey is, at best, dumb and, at worst, a police sycophant with a couple of screws loose. But did he commit a crime? And if not, what are the ramifications for others who practice legal open carry in North Carolina or elsewhere?
Despite ominous descriptions of the car and his Facebook page (he criticized Obama! Blasphemy!), not a single account has indicated that he threatened anyone, either with the gun or verbally. Although his cop fixation and participation in the emergency services volunteer group “REACT” resulted in a car decked out with siren, lights and radio, nothing in North Carolina law prohibited him from carrying a firearm in a rental car lot.

Hard to imagine him not being arrested and held — maybe as a 5150.
But I thought Hussein was PRO gun! I mean, he said he was and we know he wouldn’t lie!
I don’t think he was planning to meet Obama with a gun on his hip, I think he was there to see the plane. Of course this guy has not been charged with anything, but he is still in jail. Another public safety hold.

There have been a lot of stories locally about this guy since he was from Cambridge, Ohio which is about 25 mi away. Seems he more a cop wanabee who was deeply into neighborhood watch stuff like that.
