The search to find out who planted a car bomb that fizzled out in crowded Times Square took an international turn Monday as law enforcement officials said they were seeking a potential suspect who had recently traveled to Pakistan and had used cash to buy the SUV from a Connecticut man. Authorities identified the buyer of the SUV used in the botched bombing after interviewing the registered owner of the vehicle. One of the officials told The Associated Press that the potential suspect is a man of Pakistani descent who recently traveled to Pakistan.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the case is at a sensitive stage.
The registered owner of an SUV that was parked in Times Square and rigged with a crude propane-and-gasoline bomb told investigators he sold the vehicle to a stranger for cash three weeks ago, a law enforcement official said Monday.
The owner, who lives in Connecticut, was questioned Sunday about his sale of the dark-colored 1993 Nissan Pathfinder to a man he did not know, the official told The Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.
Officials say the owner, whose name has not been released, is not considered a suspect in the bomb scare. But the revelation of the sale leads authorities one step closer to whomever was aiming for mass carnage on a busy Saturday night in the heart of Times Square and achieved only streets emptied for hours of thousands of tourists.

Shahzad Faisal
I knew it!! Amish!
Now wait a damn minute. MSNBC told us that it had to be a white male who attended tea parties. AP has GOT to be wrong on this one.
From CBS:
[Bloomberg later told CBS Evening News Anchor Katie Couric that the suspect behind the bombing attempt could be a domestic terrorist angry at the government who acted alone.
If I had to guess 25 cents, this would be exactly that. Homegrown, or maybe a mentally deranged person, or somebody with a political agenda that doesnt like the health care bill or something. It could be anything, he said.]
Not Amish, he is a member of a Lutheran splinter group.
This can not be true! Everyone from the NYT to MSNBC to Hizhonor himself identified the perp as an Obamacare hating ‘Teabagger’! They wouldn’t lie about such a thing would they?
FOX News says they have the man in custody. Breaking news just now.
He’s been known to leave casseroles on doorsteps!
Here's an MSNBC story concerning Shahzad Faisal.
CNN covering as Fox went back to Hannity.
Hmm...
Thanks for the update, as I am “Foxless” at the moment. Those Lutherans put up a good fight, but they don’t run too fast. Lucky for us.
Never fear. Inspector Bloomberg is on the case.
Leaving casseroles on doorsteps? That explains why he had heating equipment in his car. Casseroles delivered hot. You should have explained this earlier, it would have saved everyone embarrassment.
No nice nice time with the suspect in question.
Yes, we can’t have these rogue Lutherans going around doing this sort of stuff - leaving casseroles for the sick, making jello salads, drinking coffee - is this what American has become?
Man is a Connecticut resident who bought the SUV at center of probe
NEW YORK - Authorities arrested a suspect in the attempted weekend car bombing in Times Square, NBC News' justice correspondent Pete Williams reported early Tuesday morning.
A U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, Shahzad Faisal, was arrested Monday night in Long Island, Williams reported.
Earlier, an official told The Associated Press that the potential suspect recently traveled to Pakistan. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the case was at a sensitive stage.
