If U.S. officials had followed up on a 1994 response plan for a major Gulf oil spill, it is possible that the spill could have been kept under control and far from land.
The problem: The federal government did not have a single fire boom on hand.

The "In-Situ Burn" plan produced by federal agencies in 1994 calls for responding to a major oil spill in the Gulf with the immediate use of fire booms.

Just saw this over on Drudge and did a quick search (and it worked) before I posted it also!
Plz add me to your pingy list.
If you have a chance, read the comments on AI article. Priceless...some are soooo drunk on ObamaKoolAid that they are crying ‘RAAACIST’ the criticisms of the Obama Administration DOING NOTHING for ten day.
Or...they are just hourly bloggers from some bunker operating OFA...
An image provided by Carmi, Ill.-based Elastec/American Marine shows an oil burn being conducted in one of its patented Hydro-Fire Boom systems. The inflatable, fire-resistant, water-cooled boom was developed to contain surface oil and burn it offshore, helping prevent destruction of critical environmentally sensitive shoreline habitats, company officials said.
Color me stupid, but is this the SAME rig that had 11 DIE on it?? I NEVER hear about the 11 DEAD PEOPLE....why??
“People, BAD. Birds, GOOD.”
Catch up.
I have wondered the same thing.
I also remember in the very beginning them talking about doing burns and never heard about them again. Certainly no pics of the burns from satellite. It seemed like a reasonable response, what happened?

Have any names been released? Poor Philipino workers doing “the jobs Americans won’t do?”
They have not acted because they want this to be the biggest eco disaster this country has ever seen(in their eyes) so they can then have the media propaganda to have the public hate the oil companies more than ever.
With that public hate they will take over the oil companies and be well on their way to completing their ruin of this country.
Pretty simple really!
You are added. Thanks.
This bunch attacks when they sense they are in trouble, and they are indeed in trouble.
I mean it was Bush and Cheney's weather machine that aimed Katrina at those black people he hates.
So who is to blame for not having executed the government's own 1994 plan to store containment booms at strategic spots?
Obviously Bush.
Haliburton/Cheney/Bush’s fault.
umm, ummm, ummm
Barack Hussein Obama...
The companies should be required to keep the equipment handy,
but they own the government. Some will call that “freedom”
So far NO ONE has answered me that this was the rig where 11 people died or not.....so help me catch up, OK?
You’re right.
I will also say the “quiet” from BP employees might be “contractual” too. All I can find is comments from family members.
