A former congressman from northeast Ohio wants to make a political comeback after serving seven years in prison for corruption.
James Traficant (TRAF'-eh-kehnt) filed petitions Monday morning to run as an independent in the region's 17th Congressional District. That's the seat he held for nine terms. The seat is currently held by Democrat Tim Ryan, who once worked for Traficant.

The 68-year-old Traficant was convicted of racketeering, bribery and other crimes. He left federal prison in September.

Actually, by Rat standards, I'm not all that bad
“Beam me up, Scotty!”
Does anyone still have the picture of Jim with the road kill on his head?
LOL! Now he is one democrat I wouldn’t mind seeing elected to office. Can you imgine what trouble he’d cause for Nancy?
Maybe I’m nuts, but I want this guy back in the house.
I didn’t think a felon could hold public office??????
I even have the bumper stick, “TRAFICANT - HE JUST GOT CAUGHT!”
Agreed.I'll wager that he was none-too-popular over at DNC Headquarters while he was a Rep.In fact,I'd be willing to listen carefully to any claim he might make that he was set up.
This may be the definition of chutzpah. Just wow...
Colonel, USAFR
is an R running in this race? maybe he and the D can split the rat vote him being former Rat himself and an R can squeeze him. Similar to how Hawaii is shaping up which i really hope holds up for the special election
They all do the crime, but Jim did the time.
I see he still wears a squirrel on his head....
I even have the bumper stick, TRAFICANT - HE JUST GOT CAUGHT!
...good one. I have a sticker I got in Dallas at the ‘84 Republican Convention for Mondale/Ferraro. “Vote Wally And The Beaver”
this will scare many, but I’m not entirely convinced that he wouldn’t win in Youngstown
Alcee Hastings...impeached.Don't know if that makes him a felon or not, however. If Traficant *is* elected he'd sure be denied his seat by any RAT Speaker. But then,it seems that there won't be a RAT Speaker next January.
BWAHAHAHA!
Poster boy for DEMS.
It’s now a requirement.
Why not? He might as well join the rest of his felonious friends. Did you ever imagine the mafia would be running the show?
I'll vote for him. I don't live in Ohio but that's never stopped anyone.
