USAF F-22A Raptor Thought of the Day
From the April 27, 2010 article "F-22 Raptor to star at this weekend's air show" by Jerry Soifer

The F-22 has been deployed to the Mideast theater but has not been used in combat operations over Iraq and Afghanistan. Four F-22s flew over Washington, D.C., for security purposes during the inauguration of President Barack Obama. The F-22s are on constant alert around the nation and continually deployed to other theaters. The first F-22s were delivered to Langley in 2004 and went fully operational in 2007. Air Force Lt. Col. Brent Gillespie has flown the F-4 Phantom numerous times as a target for the F-22, known as the Raptor. "The F-22 is quite lethal," said Gillespie by e-mail from Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, N.M. "Most missions we never see them even after being told where they will be flying for that particular sortie. We are targeted and destroyed without knowing it until they tell us via radio transmission." Skalicky said the Raptor has "no rival" in large force exercises such as "Red Flag" over the Nevada desert. "We continually see kill ratios in the order of 200-0 over the course of the two-week exercise," said Skalicky. "It gives you the opportunity to out-think and out-smart your opponent rather than having to simply outgun him" even though in the Raptor, that strategy will work, too. Skalicky added, "Nothing compares to flying the Raptor. It's the most powerful, most maneuverable, most lethal fighter that's ever been built. I feel privileged simply to be associated with it let alone fly it."
Airplane porn baby!
Wow. so cool they look animated
bttt
And not something my wife will complain about, either! Nice wallpaper, which needed replacing anyway.
OS <-——once an F-111D crewchief, long ago and far away, in another universe...
well, I did get a new wallpaper for the day or week out of this
I just went to an air show yesterday where they showed these off.
Aardvark bump!
:-)
We saw them perform at the Andrews Air show. They are awesome!
Of course the Iranians will tell you they can blow it out of the sky and their pilots will suffer no losses.
Thanks very much for posting...I have it on a 42 inch plasma I am using as a monitor as a background. WOW!
BTW USAF Museum in Dayton Ohio has one on display. The museum is a MUST see.
I just cannot believe they are going to stop making them in favor of the F-35 which might end up costing more at the rate its costs are going up.
I saw it fly at March ARB on Saturday. It is awesome.
Wallpaper.
Tough job flying those planes.
Obama cancelled the Raptor because it isn’t fair for us to have such a capable fighter and he can’t figure out how to give the technology to Iran.
ahh....so THAT’s Obama’s strategy...
We are going to release photographs of very, very scary looking airplanes flying over the Middle East, and the Iranians will look at them and be so scared that they’ll soil their diapers, and then we’ll tell them that if they don’t stop building nukes we are going to release more photos of even scarier looking planes, and....
