Why would a good airline, Continental, get in bed with a really bad airline, United?

I’ve always been happy with Continental. If the merger goes well then it should open a whole bevy of new flight options; I’m looking forward to it.

They’ve had too many planes parked for too long and they are a whisper away from bankruptcy. All of them are hurting.

Why would a good airline, Continental, get in bed with a really bad airline, United? It's a merger; just like a marriage.
Continental is playing the part of the wife, who believes she can fix her new husband.

I’m perfectly happy with Virgin America and plan to keep flying on it as much as possible. I swore off both United and American Airlines a LONG time ago.

Don’t like the prices? Don’t fly, they will starve.

Continental and Northwest were my favorite airlines to fly to Asia. The merger with Delta ruined NWA for me and it looks like United till kill what used to be a pleasant experience on Continental.
I really want to fly US carriers but its getting harder and harder..its to bad mergers of US carriers make the survivor worse than the prior parts.

Airfares to DOUBLE ! Can anyone say anti-trust? Yu signed up today to post this???
 Welcome to Free Republic.
And I'd be happy to have CO-UA double their fares -- it would make it much easier for me to book my preferred airline(s).
Will they charge carry-on baggage fees too? And install pay toilets? Oh, and if you want anything other than water (still, room temp), you're gonna pay...

Why would a good airline, Continental, get in bed with a really bad airline, United? Says everything about the "good" airline. I used to like Continental. A lot. But after it got in bed with United, well, I avoid it now. Who know what diseases it's carrying?

I swore off both United and American Airlines a LONG time ago. I swore off them both with my first flights in the 60s. Was forced this decade to fly them both again. United: a wee bit better, American... no.
But please don't take my word for it and patronize them instead. *\;-)
