(CNN) -- I am white. I know that's a terribly big surprise, considering that I write a blog called Stuff White People Like, but I mean it, I'm white. Like really white. I'm not attempting to assert some sort of superiority through my whiteness; quite the opposite actually. Thanks to my liberal upbringing, I am imbued with the appropriate amount of guilt and shame about my ancestors and their actions in the New World.

We are informed that he has published a book "Stuff White people like". I would not buy such a book and therefore I am unaware of Mr Lander's genealogy. He does lead with his chin however, with this statement.

There are indeed some persons who can trace their descent back to the Mayflower,and the Speedwell. Few, very few, are they.
Mr Landers has a name that in truth it is certainly evident in the UK, it also has German origins. It is European as of itself. The massive migrations from the British Isles, not including Ireland came between 1850 and 1913. The Steamships started that.
Perhaps he can trace his ancestry back to the Mayflower, if so I stand corrected. He could fill in his time and really check, he might get one heck of a suprise. Most of us who have checked certainly do. Yep, by the kind efforts of the Mormon church, the 1881 census(England and Wales)also Canada, with the 1880 census (USA) are absolutely free. Lander should take search- if he has not already.
And cnn wonders why their ratings are in the toilet and never coming back.

The conceit of the “white privilege” crowd is that if it weren’t for certain people of northern Europe ethnicity, all the non-northern Europeans who are now poor or not as materially well-off as the Eurams would be swimming in riches like Scrooge McDuck in his castle vault. How does that explain Oprah Winfrey being a billionaire and the host of other non-”white” entertainers and athletes who are multi-millionaires if not billionaires?
