(CNN) -- I am white. I know that's a terribly big surprise, considering that I write a blog called Stuff White People Like, but I mean it, I'm white. Like really white. I'm not attempting to assert some sort of superiority through my whiteness; quite the opposite actually. Thanks to my liberal upbringing, I am imbued with the appropriate amount of guilt and shame about my ancestors and their actions in the New World.

I am a White Devil, and proud of it!
I must be black then.
Guess that explains why Edgar and Johnny Winter have never played there.
And that whole blankets with smallpox is a bunch of BS too.
I think Ward Churchill tried to propagate that myth and was debunked.
I thot this was satire at first .... Guilt and shame? rolling eyes//
HAHAHAHAHA!
This dude's almost transparent.
[She's got Vikings in the wood pile. The original native Irish Celts were darker skinned and predominantly dark haired before the Viking invasion]
Interestingly enough, that's why red heads were considered "bad luck".
It reminded the Irish of the Nordic/Danish incursions/occupation.
[not that there's anything wrong with *that*...it's my genetic legacy and I'm okay with it]...;-D
He’s pink.
“I’m not attempting to assert some sort of superiority through my whiteness; quite the opposite actually. Thanks to my liberal upbringing, I am imbued with the appropriate amount of guilt and shame about my ancestors and their actions in the New World.”
Well that just about says it all, doesn’t it?
And they wonder why we don’t want to follow their flawed philosophy.
Why aren’t they imbued with the appropriate amount of guilt and shame about their own actions in the New World?
Surname: Lander
This apparently simple surname is in fact one of complex origins.
It may be a development of the Olde French “Lavendier” which was usually anglicised to Launder and Lander, and describes one who owned the local laundry, and was therefore occupational.
The same word was confusingly applied to a textile worker who washed the cloth after fulling and dyeing.
However a larger number of British name holders will have a Germanic or Anglo-Saxon origins, and sometimes with a later 17th century Huguenot entry as well to thoroughly mix the brew. In this case the name is topographical and describes a countryman, one who lived on the land, as opposed to a city dweller.
It is also possible that a few examples will apply to the town of Landau in Germany, and will therefore contradict the previous statement!
What is certain is that the name has been recorded in England for a very long time.
Early examples include Ralf la Lavendere in the Somerset Rolls of 1268, Thomas Launder of Yorkshire in 1331, and Elizabeth Lander in the Hearth Rolls of Suffolk for 1524. Church recordings include Nicholas Launder at the church of St Benet Fink, London, on September 26th 1539, and Catharina Lander at Grossgarten, Neckarkreis, Wuertt, (Germany), on September 28th 1617.
The Coat of Arms granted to the nameholders depicts a paly of eight black and gold, charged with a red fess, and a crest of a hand issuing from a cloud, holding a sword.
The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Ysabelle la Lauendere, which was dated 1253, in the rolls of Oseney Abbey, Oxfordshire, during the reign of King Henry 111, known as “The Frenchman”, 1216 - 1272. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation.
In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to “develop” often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.

And therein lies the problem with liberalism. It is NOT "appropriate", but self-made. I, OTOH, have no sense of "guilt" or "shame" about any of these percieved actions. It's done, get over it and move on (isn't that what liberals say when caught doing something they shouldn't?). Liberals, stop contemplating your navel and over-analyzing yourselves.
I wonder what style of skirt he wears?
That’s pretty much it. She is so melanin deprived that she doesn’t sun tan either - the freckles just grow closer together.
I couldn't read past this obnoxious stupidity. The guy is liberal, white, a racist, and wants to put his guilt on all white people. He know nothing of history, culture, values or anything beyond his own world of ‘feelings’. He thinks he is being noble by indulging his guilt feelings. Man Up buddy, and get a life.
Episcopalians must have been tougher back in the day.
LOL!
My mom is like that.
For a while, she tried tanning salons and she *did* eventually tan but the freckles became so abundant she looked like she had some kind of exotic skin problem.
I got lucky.
A few across my nose if I’m out in the sun too long and that’s it.
[thank God for my gold-skinned/freckle-free Welsh blood]
