Sources say Arpaio will announce run for governor Monday

PHOENIX – Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is expected to announce Monday if he'll run for Arizona governor.

Several sources confirm to the ABC15 Investigators that Arpaio has already made a decision, and will likely run for the office.

In a news conference after this story was first published, the Sheriff said he was still weighing his options, but also that he would in fact have an announcement on Monday.

However, when asked about a state sales tax during the news conference, the Sheriff either misspoke or leaked his decision.

"When I'm the governor, I'll study the issue," he said. "If become the governor..so I become the governor...I'll study it."

Well, I have the greatest admiration for Sherriff Joe, but Jan Brewer is a hero, too. And we need someone like that to set the example of how a sherriff should handle the job.

Just saying. It’s up to the voters of Arizona.

I am not sure I would vote for him. He is better serving the people of Arizona right where he is. Plus he is an octagenarian and frankly as much as I like old people I am not sure if he would even last a full term.

I'd want Arpaio as head of the FBI.

He'd be around as Long as J. Edger Hoover annoying one President after another and no nonsense rounding up the Bad GUYs of whatever stripe.

I thought Brewer was doing right. Why would we want to dump her?

Becuase it's Joe Arpaio! What else needs to be said? Plus, I've heard some AZ Freepers say she has stalled tax cuts or something to that effect.

I’m not that excited. Arpaio helped to make Butch Napolitano Governor with his hearty endorsement over Matt Salmon. I endorsed Dean Martin this time around, but I appreciated what Gov. Brewer had the guts to do.

That's actually a good idea. Now, we just need to convince her to do so before Aug. primaries.

I’ve got to say that there are some very good people running for Governor of this State. Dean Martin, Hugh Kealer...all good Conservative. But if sheriff Joe runs, everyone may as well drop out.

Plus he is an octagenarian

He's 77. Yes, old, but even if he serves one term, it'll be one great term!

Now, just imagine what he could do if he led the whole state. Maricopa County-style justice state-wide!
