State Rep. Tom Emmer captured the GOP endorsement for Minnesota governor on Friday, blitzing establishment candidate Marty Seifert in a mere two ballots at the party's state convention.

Neither held a clear lead going into the convention, raising the prospect of an extended floor battle. But Emmer, who steadily gained ground on Seifert in recent months and was endorsed a day before the convention by Sarah Palin, jumped out to lead Seifert 53 percent to 43 percent on the first ballot.

When Emmer stretched his lead on the second ballot, it was over for Seifert. He took the podium to concede, urging the nearly 2,000 party activists to unite behind the man he had attacked during a bitter campaign.

As usual, my guy, Marty Seifert was a class act in defeat.

Is this other guy a decent person? Why do you think Sarah would endorse one over the other?

They’re both solid conservatives. I figured that Marty would have a better chance to win, with Tom’s youthful indiscrections (DUI’s)...

Tom played college hockey in AK, which Sarah mentioned, in her endorsement.

Expect the Dems to hammer him for his past faux pas’.....

He (Seifert) took the podium to concede, urging the nearly 2,000 party activists to unite behind the man he had attacked during a bitter campaign.

I know neither of them but this doesn't sound like he is a "class act".

Our real problem is that the state has become SO liberal with all of the immigrants, legal and otherwise, that have been welcomed with open arms by the left....Vote buying.

I fear that there is not a conservative that can win the governor’s seat in this state, right now.....

It’s always funny that the rats would go after people due to something they did in their youth, and yet they scream bloody murder when someone points out their failings. I’m sure their candidate isn’t clean, so find the dirt and fling it at him/her. That’s the game the rats play, then we should play it.

It more than likely came from his stategists....Yep bad move, but they have kissed and made up...

Remember, this is an AP piece, posted on the most liberal TV outlet in the Twin Cities.....

You have to expect that they will continue to resurrect a small blip on the radar....

He had a pretty big margin. He probably would have won anyway without Sarah’s endorsement.

He never got the 60% he needed. Marty conceded after the second round. I think Sarah may have been the difference....

Either Tom or Marty would have made a good governor, but Tom Emmer is more conservative. This is excellent news for Minnesota.
