Soldiers now have a leap-ahead new tool that will enhance their ability to see in total darkness: the AN/PSQ-20 Enhanced Night Vision Goggle.
About 300 sets of the new night-vision goggles were fielded to the 10th Mountain Division in February 2009, the first unit other than Special Forces to use the goggles.
The ENVG is a helmet-mounted passive image intensification and thermal device that incorporates both I2 and long-wave infrared sensors into a single integrated system. It weighs two pounds, including the battery pack which uses four AA batteries, the helmet mount, and wiring harness.
Feasibility studies resulted in a concept to combine a thermal camera with enhanced image intensification into an integrated helmet-borne system, something that would allow Soldiers literally to see through total darkness while still enabling them to see details and to use weapon-mounted aiming lasers.
The ENVG also facilitates faster threat recognition and thereby reduces the possibility of collateral damage and fratricide, PEO-Soldier officials said.

Yeah. Dogs can really scream if you don’t kill ‘em instantly.
Ruger 10-22 with integral suppressor.
Well, I guess we can let it go. We are still getting caught up on the files from “paradigm shift” a few years ago.
So much to do, so little time.
See if ya get a good price for 2 sets.......:o)
Whoooooooo’s yer buddy........whoooo’s yer pal .............
Very cool info, thanks. Some of us like to stay current. I had not thought thermal would be helmet mountable for years to come. I thought there were lower weight limits with thermal coolent issues etc.Very cool to know. Typical that hte SFs have had them for a year. Give it to the specops first and they can leverage their value with the edge of total surprise of capability leap.
What is the mark number of the laser designator? PQ what? 4?
We’ve gone a long way since the model 39 hushpuppy!!
How much diminished is the thermal if ambient temp is close to 98F? Does it work better in colder temps?
Maybe the price of my SOPHIEs will come down now......:o)
We paid 75k for these critters back a few years ago......work well but need to be cared for . Not grunt proof at all IMO.

As well puppys see, smell and hear a human well before close enough to them for a accurate pistol stop shot.
Bad guys guard dogs and geese.....I hate, albeit the critters just doing their job !
In the high end yacht mags that serve a clientele of 100+ foot boats, they advertise on full glossy pages an integrated system that goes up high in it’s own little turret dome that can pan/tilt/zoom etc under control from the bridge or other station.
The have day video, night vision, and thermal integrated and you can tweak the display anyway you want to bring up the aspect most helpful at that time.
Starter units cost about 150K to the Richard Branson crowd.
But the same tech makes up the CROWS unit, slaving a 50 caliber or whatever on the roof or in the turret to a Playstation era 19 year old nerd who can shoot the gun form cover (theoretically.)
I knew they were the size to mount on vehicles and boats, but HELMETS????? CRIMINY!
IR Laser makes spotting that dog dead easy first. Add thermal, you can see the critter at carbine range. If you have a line to see him. Maybe you don’t.
PS for dogs, I just remembered the rogue ATF goon shot Ranya’s father and doberman from cover using night vision. That starts Ranya off on her whole wild ride. Sniping from night vision. T’ain’t hardly sporting gents. Anybody think that being a guerrilla today will be a long lasting gig is crazy. Sensors, smart weapons, unheard unseen UAVs abound. Major chips on the tyrant/occupier side of the table today.
Has to be a perfect head shot or yelping scream noise is 90% plus possible. Then if they are part of a small pack of 2 or 3 etc ...... just me but I would avoid critters at all costs if possible and get bad guy at later day and place.
Not my idea of a stroll in the park either.
Bring me that horizon, Capt Sparrow.
Yep ...agree...the threat from within aka oath keepers etc will prevail and counter such as well as sacrifice from others that just aren’t aware of the technology that the bad guys will use.
Yep....them 120mm Mortars are the solution if ya just want to ice the pimple on the ass of society !
Better outgoing than incoming any day.
5.56mm
Every other weekend.
