Perry criticizes Ariz. law, won't adopt for Texas By Eric Zimmermann - 04/30/10 12:45 PM ET

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) is not a fan of the new Arizona immigration law and said he would not consider adopting it for Texas.

In a statement released by his office, Perry said the Arizona provision would distract law enforcement officers from their basic priorities.

"[S]ome aspects of the law turn law enforcement officers into immigration officials by requiring them to determine immigration status during any lawful contact with a suspected alien, taking them away from their existing law enforcement duties, which are critical to keeping citizens safe," Perry said.

"Our focus must continue to be on the criminal elements involved with conducting criminal acts against Texans and their property. I will continue to work with the legislative leadership to develop strategies that are appropriate for Texas.:

While Perry said he "fully recognize[s] and support a state’s right and obligation to protect its citizens" the Arizona law "would not be the right direction for Texas."

Yet another reason why Perry should never move farther up in government.

Well, Ricardo, you can kiss any hope you had for winning election to a National office (such as Vice President) good friggin' bye. But.......

If the Texas Legislature passes it and the people want it, he'll sign it.

So, when the Texas legislature convenes next January, and it passes a bill similiar to the one in Arziona....does this mean that RINO Rick will veto the bill?

Democrat governor candidate Bill White’s response was even lamer. He wants police on the streets harassing citizens. You know, the ones who ARE charged with crimes when they are caught rather than being turned loose because of immigration status, and also the local citizens can afford to pay revenue tickets to the city. Locking up illegal aliens costs money.

White has pussyfooted around this issue at every side. He’s said that the state has no authority to do it, when a state does pass a law to act (in coordination with established federal law), he hems and haws and says “we need to find another way”.

Perry is a RINO but the other choice on the ballot is also a Democrat (Perry is “former”) and is worse.

4 Years. He just won the GOP Primary in March over Kay Bailey Hutchison and Debra Medina without a runoff. Texas will NOT vote for a Democrat this November for Governor. So, we’re stuck with him for 4 more years.

Either this November to be replaced with a Clintonista Democrat or else in the NEXT go ‘round.

There was no Republican candidate running for governor last time either.
