'Iranian fighters may fly over US forces'

A senior Iranian Air Force officer does not rule out reports that an Iranian fighter jet might have flown over a US aircraft carrier last week in the Arabian Sea.

The incident was first reported by CNN on Tuesday. According to the report, a plane belonging to the Iranian Navy was flying as low as 300 feet near the USS Eisenhower on April 21.

The Eisenhower was in the northern Arabian Sea when the Iranian maritime patrol aircraft flew within 1,000 yards of the vessel, US military officials claimed.

Mohammad Alavi, deputy commander of the Iranian Air Force said that the fighter jet may have come close to the US aircraft carrier during a routine patrol.

"Iran has scheduled flights in the air corridor in the altitude of up to 20,000 feet, and its plane might have come close to the US aircraft carrier while flying in this corridor," Fars news agency quoted Alavi as saying on Thursday.

He added, "Nobody can criticize such flights because they are being conducted within the framework of international law. We conduct routine reconnaissance flights with different aircrafts, including drones, and they may have come across the US forces."

You NEVER let anything get within 1000 yard of a carrier. Hey Joint Chiefs - you awake about the usurper?

I would of immediately launched fighter jets from the Eisenhower to “escort” the intruder out of the area.

Simply paint the plane at close range with a microwave transmitter and dish. Lets see what that does. No bullets fired, but consequences.

Notice any difference between President Obama and President Eisenhower?

Wow...never heard of that movie before; is that Charles Durning? He was a bit of a hero himself in WW II.

If our troops so much as made an obscene finger gesture at the planes, Eric Holder would launch a criminal investigation.

The limit is 1000 feet. They were 3x away.
And the article is full of errors.
Wasn’t a jet, it was a turboprop maritime patrol aircraft and it was in Iranian airspace.

They were in the Gulf of Oman entering the Straites.
At that point there is no international airspace, it is Omani and Iranian.
And the inbound transit route is on the Iranian side of the strait.

Note: Flybys of ships by Maritime Patrol Aircraft are common events and perfectly legal. This media hype is the unusual part of events...

“This media hype is the unusual part of events...”

Yup. Truly baffling, too. Are they doing standard LSM bashing of the US military? Maybe, but it makes Ozero look weak.

Very unusual on all accounts.

You NEVER let anything get within 1000 yard of a carrier.

Never say never. We do it to them, they do it to us. How much time have you spent at sea aboard a carrier?

You must be a young person.

I saw “The Final Countdown” twice when it came out in 1980....at a movie theater in Goleta, California, near Santa Barbara.

The USS Nimitz was caught in some kind of time warp and found itself off the coast of Oahu a day or two before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Great flick....the Nimitz was the star of the movie.

Charles Durning played a U.S. Senator (in 1941).
