IMHO, this is going the wrong way. The bill should require proof of “Natural Born Citizenship” status, not birthplace proof. The Constitution requires the former, not the latter. Just proof of location doesn’t guarantee constitutional requirements.

That's absolutely correct.

Hopefully, this key point will be brought up when the measure is taken up by the full legislature, and the language will be amended to state that future candidates for US president must show proof of NBC to get on the Texas ballot.
