South of the border, down Mexico way, a new and savage revolution rages just beyond our inspection lanes. After less than five years of fighting, estimates of the dead have reached 22,000.
The rate of killing accelerates each month. And Washington covers its eyes like a kid at a scary movie. Well, the Mexican narco-insurgency, in which well-armed guerrilla forces confront the authority and presence of the state, is our No. 1 security challenge.
The chaos in northern Mexico has far deeper implications for our country than Islamist terror or even an Iranian nuclear capability (as grim as those threats are).
The rule of law has collapsed from Tijuana on the Pacific's edge to Matamoros and the Gulf of Mexico. Major cities are now "ungoverned spaces," as our diplomats refer tidily to distant trouble spots.
More people now die violently on our southern border than in Somalia, Yemen or even Afghanistan. But Washington doesn't know what to do about Mexico. So Washington does nothing much.
Our ruling class simply doesn't feel the pain. So the DC elite demonizes Arizona's desperate effort to shove the narco-revolution's disorder back across the border. Murdered ranchers, overwhelmed emergency rooms and soaring crime rates in our border states mean less to the White House than a terrorist detainee's claims of abuse.

My first instinct on reading this was to question what someone who writes for the NY Post knows about the Texas/Mexico border.
May I suggest you read his wiki page. It appears to me that he is not the typical North Eastern writer. It appears his judgement has not always been perfect, but I think he is generally on the right track.

Ralph Peters (born 1952) is a retired United States Army Lieutenant Colonel and author.

” Regarding Iraq, he wrote, “might it not have been wiser - as several of us suggested in 2003 - to shake off Europe’s vicious legacies and give Kurds their state, Iraqi Shias their state, and the country’s Sunni Arabs a rump Iraq to do with as they wished?” Regarding all these countries, he wrote, “We needn’t launch an endless war to fix the mess Europeans in pinstriped trousers left us - but we’d damned well better accept that, when we expend blood and treasure to prop up phony states, we’re standing on the tracks in front of the speeding train of history.
Great essay by Ralph Peters. Go to the link to read it all.

Nogales, a once-pleasant border town with many shopping attractions has, owing to increased border insecurity, beomce an economic wasteland. The tourist’s obligatory one hour drive from Tucson, and a lunch at Elvira’s is no more. Elvira’s has closed and moved to Tubac, Arizona. The shop-keepers are suffering. Visitors buy a bottle of booze at duty free shops in Arizona, cross to Mexico, pick up their bottle, and then move smartly back to Arizona. Despite Napolitano’s claim that the Arizona border is as safe as it ever has been, the number of tunnels under the fence has doubled. Two major police officials in Nogales, Sonora, have been murdered in the last year. The number of safe-houses in the border region have seemingly increased exponentially.
Ironically, the Latino community in Nogales, Arizona does not appear to be interested in protesting the Brewer decision. They were already aware that the heady days of the last decade were finished with the housing boom. They began implementing survival strategies months ago.
MEXICAN AGITATORS Last month, two Americans and a Mexican national affiliated with the US Consulate in Juarez were gunned down in cold blood in an attack believed to be connected to the consular employee's husband's work in a Texas prison guarding these same traffickers.
Shortly afterward, more hit men slipped across the border to murder an Arizona rancher and his dog on his property. Now lawmen are being threatened in the US, and American citizens, like an El Monte, Calif, school official last December, are being caught in the crossfire of a war that has killed 200,000 in Mexico.
And let's not forget the murder of rancher Bob Krentz by an illegal immigrant last month.....AND Peace-Loving Illegal Aliens in Arizona, Here For A Better Life, Doing THE MENIAL Jobs Americans Will Not Do, Who Say They Will Murder Americans With Axes.
ANALYSIS The conniving, opportunistic Mexican govt is itching to start reconquista----and is aiding and abetting drug violence, in order to sneak in hordes of Mexicans under the guise of "persecution" that the mexican govt needs to foment the takeoever.
Ohaha and US Cong are okay with this b/c drug lords are their South Ameircan Marxist compadres.......and--b/c desperate Dems need illegal votes in Nov.
REFERENCE The Mexican govt is coaching its citizens to pour into the US, whining about "drug cartel persecution." Some of these Mexican agents are wealthy phonies, squatting on US soil, reding the US gravy train, intent on draining the US treasury to finance reconquista.
The corrupt Mexican government is creating new classes of Mexican refugees whining to get "Political Asylum".....supposedly to protect them from Drug Wars (and also from "Abusive Spouses").
THE SCAM UNMASKED Social Security has a "persecution" classification (originated for Eastern Bloc refugees claiming religious or political persecution. AND GET THIS: Connivers from circa WW II eastern Europe and other Soviet satellite countries are STILL collecting.
THE RIPOFF UP CLOSE A Social Security provides outrageous government financial aid to "refugees" claiming "persecution." These phonies never paid a dime into the SS system; yet, they can collect seven years straight...... and can get extended payments if they are politically well-connected. The SS checks can amount to $1000 a month, and more.
REFERENCE In fiscal year 2008, the US government received 47,459 asylum claims and granted 10,743 - a decrease over the previous year's 54,957 applications and 12,807 approvals. Immigration attorneys insist that asylum applications won't spike if the administration expands protection to battered women.
MORE WAYS THAN ONE TO DRAIN THE US TREASURY Illegals are also crying "domestic violence" in order to collect.
"How are asylum authorities going to substantiate these claims when we know that domestic violence is a complicated thing," said Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the advocacy group Federation for American Immigration Reform. "This is getting the US into personal relationships, and that's not where asylum law ought to go."
Mehlman said his organization opposed expanding the asylum law (which was created in 1980 largely as a means for Communist Bloc citizens to defect while visiting the US in a diplomatic role.) Backers of the law at the time estimated that claims would average around 5,000 a year and drop off significantly after the Cold War ended...........but that never happened.
SWAG is that the confrontations will be more frequent till America has had enough. They will kill a polidiots kid or some celebrity punk and even the diversion of guilt socialist left will be outraged .
Then again is may just come down to a few coyotes left on the fence to warn off the others......
...stay safe Liz !
