I agree. All these studies must be taken with a grain of salt (if we are even allowed to eat salt now). The health nannies and government are using the promise of perfect health and the threat of dire consequences if we don’t live as they say we ought to live. BS.
We are going to find that we have much less control over our health than we think we do. When somebody says that one food or another is “poison”, I know he has an agenda that goes far beyond health or science.
BTW, the government’s new plan to reduce salt - might very well lead to an increase of pathogens in our food. Salt is a great preservative and keeps the nasty critters under control. With much more government help, we will all be dead.
That might work unless you actually want to get in shape. Do a hard workout with no carbs available to burn and your body goes into starvation mode and starts eating through your muscle fibers.
I beg to differ. Based on bioavailability, the order of burn is carbohydrates, fats, proteins. If you’re >15% BMI, a lack of carbs will cause your body to go to the next most bioavailable energy source: fat. If you’re <10% BMI, then yes, your body will start to leech protein from your muscles and calcium from your bones. Also, “starvation mode” kicks in when there are no immediate energy sources available (carbs, fats OR proteins). If you’re eating fats and proteins (meats, cheeses, nuts) throughout the day, your body will start to burn the fat if your carb stores are low. I’m not promoting starvation, simply a lack of carbs.
Your post just made a light bulb go off in my head.
Potassium.
Thanks !
You are welcome. Are you having problems with Atkins or blood pressure meds?
It would be the blood preassure meds.
I remember many years ago(about 40) when my husband was put on blood preassure meds he felt just awful, weak, lethargic etc. He was put on potassium and it helped him considerably.
I was put on the meds about 4 years ago and have been slightly “off” ever since. Your post brought my husband’s situation back. The classic “light bulb” moment.
I’ll pick some up tomorrow.
My grandmother knew the dangers of too much sugar, and foods that turn to sugar in your body (carbs). There wasn’t a whole lot known about it back then, beyond a common sense approach to a balanced diet. We’ve learned so much since then about carbohydrates. It always amazes me that there are still so many people today who don’t know.
