Arizona Governor Poll Bounce for Arizona Governor After Signing Immigration Law (+16%)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | April 28. 2010 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 04/28/2010 5:34:28 PM PDT by Red Steel

Last week, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed an immigration law that launched a national debate. It has also at least temporarily helped her own chances of remaining Arizona’s governor.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state shows that 56% now approve of the way Brewer is performing her role as governor. Two weeks ago, just 40% offered their approval.

The new figure includes 22% who Strongly Approve of the governor’s performance. That’s up from five percent (5%) before Brewer signed the law that authorizes local police to stop and verify the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant.

The bounce in the polls is also evident in new numbers on the November election. If Brewer is the Republican nominee, she would get 48% of the vote while her likely Democratic opponent, State Attorney General Terry Goddard, would attract 40%. Two weeks ago, it was Brewer 44% and Goddard 40%. Goddard is an outspoken opponent of the new law.

He will do fine if he gets off the “ birther” crap which was finished when Obama took the oath. No one cares about that. We Care about issues and conservatives running rinos out of our party like that sniveling “girly” man Lindsey Gramnesty who I saw tonight opposing the great new Arizona law and get that damned Mc Amnesty run out of Arizona. (I saw him begging people to forget tonight on Fox). JD needs to stay conservative and not kookify himself or he will lose real bad.

well AZ will not be going blue in the next election then LOL
even worse for them is that illegals will now go to other states like NM, CO, UT and where more voters will want bills like AZ.
Thus meaning more bad news for the rats come election time as we know the rats do not believe in the law any more and will defend those who break the law

Heck, with a 16 point bounce, if Arnold in CA jumps on the bandwagon and supports this bill, his approval rating would shoot up to 21%.

If Gov. Paterson was smart he'd come out in support of it and grab the nomination away from Andy Cuomo in a NY minute!

What's know-it-all "Community Organizer In Cheif"'s rating now? 30%?

I have been saying since before the 2008 elections that this was a winning issue, I have no idea why we nominated the one candidate who was weak on this issue.

I am an immigrant and want this bill, why should I and others who came legally and pay taxes , respect this country and her laws be paying and doing all of this while illegals come in, do not pay taxes , get free food, education , welfare, , health care etc.

good for AZ and I hope other states follow AZ

70% of the American population is wrong. It’s the 30% that’s right. The news media is the voice of the 30%, along with the controlling body of Congress and the President.

Si Amigo. Es Verdad. Many American patriots are Hispanic and great citizen. I just voted for a Hispanic businessman for state representative here who is a conservative republican leader in our community and in the son of legal immigrants. That is not the issue. The issue is ILLEGAL aliens and open borders and terrorist coming through them to kill our children. Vaya Con Dios.

When I saw her on TV, she looked old, hesitant, unsure, tentative, and afraid of her own shadow. I hope I am wrong, but she could be a Casper the Friendly Ghost Republican in disguise. Her support for McPain says a lot too.

What you forget is that AZ is also full of retirees who are comfortable with the old geezer McPain.
