It’s because of lunatic positions such as this one that I a “lapsed” Catholic. The Church saw the last of my support a few years ago, and likely won’t ever see it again.

The US Catholic church on Tuesday condemned Arizona's "draconian" new immigration law, saying it would alienate immigrant communities across the United States.

Alienate people? Since when has the Catholic Church or any real church worried about that? If they were worried about popularity they wouldn't ban birth control. They do the things they do based on principles and not based on what people think about the Church. That's how a real church works.

The Vatican needs to tell their American brethren to stay out of this.

Would the CC like a world without borders and without laws protecting said borders?

Does it deliberately continue to promote statist policies throughout the world to drive more and more people to hopelessness, and thus, back to the Church?

I guess the Catholic church thinks this new law is going to cut down on the pool of boys being available to select from.

Not sure what happens to Bishops once they put on the mitre.

Maybe its something in the beanie they give’m.

Reminds me of the scene in “High Plain’s Drifter”:

Clint: “So, all these pilgrims here are your brothers and sisters?”

Priest: “They most certainly are!”

Clint: “Well then, I guess you won’t mind if they stay at your house tonight.”

Well, in the first place, if you read the article, you'll find that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops has not met and discussed this issue.

"It certainly would lead to the rise in fear and distrust in immigrant communities," Wester, who chairs the USCCB migration committee, said.

In other words he is speaking for himself, as head of the migration committee, not for the bishops.

In the second place, this is not a matter of faith and morals, but of prudential judgment. And, frankly, he's got it wrong.

I, too, am a Catholic. But I don't let this kind of stuff bother me or, God forbid, drive me away from God. This turkey was probably made chair of the migration committee for a good (meaning bad) reason--because it's his academic specialty, or because he's a flaming PC race monger, or the like.

Yes, you have to feel sorry for the poor and afflicted of the world. But that doesn't mean they have a right to break the law. There's plenty of wealth and resources right down in Mexico, if they just get their act together. Meantime, it's not helping anyone to put them on welfare, break all the laws, and bankrupt America.

The bottom line is what this is about! The VAST majority in ILLEGALS in this country are Catholic. “The Church” is doesn’t want to lose bodies and donations!

This is the kind of loopy thinking that monolithic giant foists on you, Mark. Now you have to submit and acknowledge that it is wiser, more godly, better informed about God’s will than you. This is the submission demanded from Rome.

Thinking believers say, “Tell Rome to shove it where the relic don’t shine.” But, you my FRiend are stuck. Remember, even your tag line. They pronounce, you obey.

Unbelievable. If you were to live here in AZ and see the trouble illegals cause, you would be astounded that Rome would collude with La Raza and Reconquista. This persuades me all the more...Catholicism is a screwed up cult.

“The law signed by Arizona’s Republican Governor Jan Brewer on Friday allows police in the southwestern state that shares a border with Mexico to question and detain anyone they believe may be an illegal immigrant, even if they are not suspected of committing another crime.”

Yet another lie being perpetuated by the media, this time by AFP.

If indeed this is the official position of the USCCB, then I must assume they are in favor of open borders. I then wonder, if the USCCB is so unconcerned about rules and laws, would they also not care if I, as a practicing Catholic, treated the rules of the Church in the same way?

Those navel gazing buffoons at the USCCB need to brush up on the Catechism. It's prudential statements like these that cause most of the laity to ignore those clowns.

2241 The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin. Public authorities should see to it that the natural right is respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him.

Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants' duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens.
