So far, the biggest negation for this guy is he was the Sommerce Secretary under Gov. Doyle. While he was the Commerce Secretary, Wisconsin has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. If that is his only "skeleton" than this this guy has a chance on defeating Feingold and becoming the "10th Seat" to take back the Senate in the fall.
is the candidate related to Jake Leinenkugel ?
The guy was Commerce Sec under Rat Gov Doyle....Two days ago he was interviewed on Charlie Sykes show and fumbled, stumbled, and bumbled when asked how any conservative could support him. He had no answer when Sykes asked which of Doyles positions he disagreed with. If his name was not Leinenkugel, he would be laughed out of the Republican Party.
Tell him if he sends me a case or two of his Sunset Wheat then I’ll move to Wisconsin and vote for him
I heard his interview on Charlie Sykes show (WTMJ Milwaukee)
last week. Charlie gave him MULTIPLE chances to distance himself from Jim Doyle and he WOULDN’T DO IT. He’s been the Commerce secretary for the most tax happy and business unfriendly administration in decades. This guy is worse then a RINO.
I see ‘Change in Wisconsin’ has been a FReeper since 4/21/2010....Great to join FR just to pump the loser Leinenkugel....Drink the beer, dump the brewer.
It’s crappy beer, anyway.

But he wasn’t active in politics prior to that. Big difference. So he wouldn’t “talk down” the governor that gave him his first chance to do something in government. If that means he agrees with Doyle politically on everything, that would be trouble. On the other hand, if he’s fed up with the direction of government and believes as he states on his website, perhaps he’s just a person with enough class to not heap disrespect on the person who he reported to and who gave him his first opportunity.
Calling him a RINO on the evidence you’ve provided is pretty shaky. Was he trying to screw business or help them navigate through Wisconsin’s admittedly difficult regulatory environment?
In any case, he’ll almost certainly be a far better vote than Feingold.
Welcome aboard, Newbie. Did you sign up just to shill for a RINO who was an integral part of the Doyle Administration?
Leinenkugel supported the Doyle agenda, including the catastrophic budget and unprecedented tax increases. If he wanted to stand up against those things - and if he were a real conservative, he would have - the time to do it was while he was serving as Commerce Secretary - even if he had to resign to do it.
I thought Leinenkugel and Peggy Lautenschlager were going to have their own party?
great. just what we need is a Leine Looney.
his interview with Sykes was nothing less than an embarrassment. he came off looking like a fool.
I would vote for Wall long before this guy.
anybody have any insights re Ron Johnson? sounds pretty good from what I hear.
>>It doesnt take a genius to figure out that Leinenkugels sole purpose in running is to try and split the Republican vote to give Rusty Feingold a better shot at retaining this seat.<<
It doesn’t take a “genius” to understand that Leinenkugel is running in a Republican Primary, either. Hard to split the Republican vote when only one person will be running in the general election as a Republican.
Now, if he loses the primary and decides to run anyway as an Independent, that would be another story, but it’s not the case today.
Plus, all the Republican candidates will get name exposure as they battle it out in the primary.
“While he was the Commerce Secretary, Wisconsin has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. “
I’ve included links to where I obtained my information. You are free to not agree with it but I wanted to show you that I had research to back up what I’m saying.
Last April the unemployment rate in this state was the highest it has been since 1982.
http://www.jsonline.com/business/43111002.html
This April the rate is 8.2% seasonally adjusted and 9.4% not seasonally adjusted. This is only slightly below the national average of 9.7% and 10.2% and pretty close to what they were a year ago.
http://www.dwd.state.wi.us/dwd/newsreleases/ui_state_default.pdf
This March, there were 25 states with rates lower than the national average of 9.7%. Wisconsin’s rate of 8.8% was close to the national average but not significantly lower as was ND at 4.0%. The range of states lower than the national average was from ND’s 4.0% to PA’s 9.0%. If you look at the charts WI falls somewhat in the middle of that. I wouldn’t say “one of the lowest”. In fact one of the charts on the following link shows that the state lost another 74,800 jobs since last March.

At the rate that WI has been bleeding manufacturing jobs and losing companies I hardly think that Leinenkugel has been working his fingers to the bone to remedy the situation. In fact, I’ve never heard of the guy until a couple of weeks ago so he hasn’t been out in the forefront speaking out or putting himself on the line.
A better question may be “What has he done to lower unemployment and prevent the loss of manufacturing jobs in the state?”
I heard parts of the interview ... still trying to get the podcast. I heard that he tried to get a temporary sales tax holiday to increase sales in Wisconsin and the Gov shot him down.
I still haven’t heard Gov Palin trash a real RINO, McCain, because of her loyalty to him. However, if you look at her websites, as well as Leinenkugel’s, you will see a stark contrast to Gov Doyle’s policies.
I am not saying he is Ronald Reagan, but then again, Ronald Reagon use to be a Democrat.
LOL! Not! While he was Commerce Sec., the dept continued the hog wild regulating and fee charging spree it's been on. what's he done to stiffle that BS? Nothing!
Yeah, I’m a bit embarrassed. I should not have rushed to hit post.
It’s a Republican primary and there’s no corresponding fight for the D posiiton. That means the Ds can step up and vote for the R most likely to lose in the general.
He’s running against Monroe, Huber, and Steven Point, right?
