So, IMHO, the damage they are doing, knowingly or otherwise, IS (or should be) potentially a capital crime.

A capital crime punishable by immediate summary execution via explosive dismemberment with no due process whatsoever? A landmine doesn't distinguish between a violent MS-13 gang member smuggling meth and a 24-year-old woman hoping to land a job as a maid.

All this talk of gunning down or blowing up illegal border crossers is just freakish, and reflects poorly on you and on Free Republic as a whole.

Then there is the moral issue. A lot of illegal aliens are exploited almost like slaves. I dislike the idea of second class (non-)citizenry almost as much as I dislike illegal aliens.

So should we open fire on the slave ships and burn them to the waterline before they have a chance to dock in Savannah, is that it??

Israel built a strong barrier and monitors it. They don't shoot to kill unless the infiltrator is clearly carrying a bomb, and they don't lay land mines in order to indiscriminately kill Palestinian infiltrators.

Its called “assumption of risk.” The sign (on the concertina wire) says “Danger: Minefield.” If they walk into it and get blown to bits, its their fault. They had fair warning.

You’re assuming they would actually enforce the law against the illegals. We have pretty good evidence the government won’t do this.

If the slaver won’t stop or fires at their pursuers, yep, send ‘em all to Davy Jones. Its hard on the slaves, but its even harder on the slavers. Keep it up and the slave trade ends.

If we built a barrier like Israel’s and defended it like they do, I’d be ecstatic. From what I can tell, almost no terrorists penetrate it. Minefields are only an option of desperation.

The Mexicans do what you’ve mentioned because they really believe the southwest rightfully belongs to them. I’ve even heard 3rd generation Mexican Americans claim that Mexico OWNS Texas and owes them all sorts of freebies. And people wonder why a lot of folks don’t like Mexicans?

Wire is useless unless it is mined/booby trapped
Mines / booby traps are useless unless they are guarded

“We are not in a state of cease-fire armistice with Mexico,”

Actually, the Mexican Army has invaded the United States over 200 times between 1996—2005 (latest graphic I have from DHS).

Several of those times the Mexican Army engaged (i.e., shot at) Border Patrol Agents and local law enforcement. That is an act of war.

So, you may be correct we are not in a state of cease-fire, however, we are in a case of active engagement.

The Mexican Army is hired by the cartels to escort drug smugglers.

And people wonder why ordinary Mexicans are trying to get the hell out of that benighted country by any means necessary.

Maybe after November Congress will have the guts to take meaningful action on armed incursions like those you mention.

Perhaps we should arm DHS Predators with Hellfire missiles to shoot the Mexican Army. Seriously.

Anyway, the Mexican Army escorting drug smugglers has nothing to do with "honest" illegal aliens coming north. Most illegal aliens are gang members, criminals of all types and drug smugglers.

The romantic notion that there are hordes of hard-working illegals striving for an honest living in America is a myth. Review the linked blotter to get a sample of what actually is coming north (http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/border_security/border_patrol/weekly_blotter/).
