SEND IN THE DRONES: PREDATORS TO FLY ABOVE TEX-MEX BORDER Tue Apr 27 2010 19:39:41 ET
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told a Senate hearing Tuesday that unmanned aerial drones will soon fly through Texas skies!
"Big Sis" declared that over the past 15 months, federal law enforcement initiatives have made the border more secure than in any other time in history, the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS reports in Wednesday editions.
The new "predator bees" have the capability to fly at altitudes used by commercial aircraft, and are designed to enhance intelligence capabilities of federal, state and local law enforcement.
But a recent analysis of the use of unmanned aerial vehicles found that they were twice as likely to crash as manned aircraft, according to the Congressional Research Service.

Yep, it’s pure BS, meant to gull the rubes, like “virtual fences.”

BS. Not multiple fences with patrolled, swept sand roads in between.

Unless the Federales are willing shoot, they’re not going to any good.
Except maybe to make sure the invaders make it safely through the dry parts.
Build a wall! Hell, build Minefields!

BS. Not multiple fences with patrolled, swept sand roads in between. Claymores and M16 AP mines! Don't forget those! Gotta have them to keep the zombies from heading north! Polar bears will keep the Canuk side of the nation zombie free ;)

Berlin and Israel are small fences in length. We are talking about 2000 miles of fences. They will be compromised quite easily and already are being compromised of the ones we have up.

I suggest we could send unemployment to almost zero for work-capable adults by building a massive project and cutting off ALL welfare, food stamps, and entitlements at the same time.

More important than a wall or fence along the border is the fact that the U.S. is a bilingual welfare state that panders to, coddles, and protects illegal immigrants. Add to that the law that makes a citizen of anyone born inside the U.S.

BUILD A F...G FENCE! HOW COMPLEX IS THAT? Two fences. And a minefield in between them.
A fence will be ineffective if there is no enforced consequence for trying to get past it.

This is what I’d do. We have 2000 miles of border to protect. Build 100 outposts 20 miles apart along the entire border. Fly the drones up and down the border which are monitored by the outposts. Once people are spotted crossing the border then one or more outposts responds to the area either by vehicle, helicopter, or both.

We have far more military planes in the air down here than civilian and that’s never been a problem.

Wrong: Was in Israel and IDF showed me their IPB (battlefield planning) for their fence. Damn thing works 100% if you build it big enough, and have weapons free ROE. Was with GSG9 in Germany and we discussed the Berlin Wall. They asked why we haven't built one to keep people out, since their wall was VERY effective at keeping people in.
You answered the question of your second paragraph in the bolded part of the first.
The reason the Berlin wall worked is because deadly force was used without hesitation on anybody trying to breach it. This would not be politically viable in the US (at least not yet).
We need to focus on going after employers and also denying social services to illegals, to eliminate incentives to their coming in.

These "drone" only have the ability to tell you something is happening on the ground. You still need boots on the ground to stop the illegal activity. We need a cheaper alternative to the (very effective) Hellfires for border security. Back to Korea-era napalm, maybe? Won't need so many boots on the ground to just finish off the half-cooked ones!

You still need boots on the ground to stop the illegal activity...or dredge the Rio Grande, fill it with water, and populate it with millions of Nile Crocodiles....30 footers.

Build a wall! Hell, build Minefields!Agreed, but watch out- when I suggested mining the border in a post a while back, one of the mods FReepmailed me that I would be suspended if I said that again.
