Stephen Hawking's new documentary premiered Sunday night on the Discovery Channel. In it, he claimed that intelligent alien life almost certainly exists and that the search for it is valuable. He also suggested that the potential threats posed by contact with alien intelligence should discourage us from actively sending out messages to the cosmos. As anyone who has seen the Discovery Channel broadcast knows, it did an excellent job of explaining astrobiology and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. It illustrated how vast the search is (and will become) and its potential impact on Earth's inhabitants.

Yeah, it was a lot of info... and hopefully it will give some good foundation and “basis” for a discussion, in this thread of what people should “think” when considering “aliens” from advanced civilizations in outer space, as is currently popular thinking in our culture ... :-)
In other words, there are no alien civilizations eagerly awaiting the next fifty-year-old broadcast episode of Bonanza or tuning in to the CBS Evening News, wondering how that Cold War thingy is coming along on earth. There's just static and snow.
It also seems to suggest that our attempts to announce ourselves to the universe via radio signals would be about as well served by putting a note in a bottle and tying it to a balloon.
Come to think of it, I believe that's essentially what we did with that gold record on Voyager.
If however we get to them... then they have a lot to fear.
Any race with the technology to visit another planet would seem like Gods compared to those they were visiting.
Should we fear space aliens?
If they come in the form of washington politicians...YES.
Come to think of it, I believe that's essentially what we did with that gold record on Voyager.
Well, Voyager is now "V'ger" -- one of those alien life forms... doncha know ... LOL ...
It was a good Star Trek show ... :-)
If aliens are the Fallen (and if you believe in scripture, it’s pretty hard not to believe that at least some are), I’m not going to worry about them. The Fallen assail us in many ways. This would just be one more. I believe in Him, so He’s got my back.
It is fun to think about the other concept (alien civilization), though. Part of why I’m a big scifi fan...
Im not going to worry about them. The Fallen assail us in many ways. This would just be one more. I believe in Him, so Hes got my back.
Agreed in that I would "worry" about them either, as God does provide protection for those who belong to the Messiah of Israel.
But, having said that, it's also something that needs to be clarified to a lot of people, as what is involved here is "deception" for the purpose of turning people away from God and the Salvation that He has provided and for the purpose of opposing Him.
So, this is "part of the war" that is going on now...
I am inclined to worry more about Muslims!
Perhaps, someone has been spreading rumors that we taste just like intergalactic space chicken.
THX. LATER
In a bit of a rush.
Except or the pointy heads, that's them :-)
Yeah, but nothing beats The Wrath of Khan.
It’s a COOKBOOK!
“Where are they?” —Enrico Fermi
1. They're not there at all.
2. They're so far away, so incredibly rare and so distant from each other that, statistically, they may as well not exist at all, as far as we're concerned.
3. They're there, but have learned to be very quiet.
My money's on #1, though what do I know?
Do you remember “How to Serve Man’?
If intelligent alien life exists and if they get C-Span when the dems are speaking... they will kill us all the very first time they contact us.
Sorry, I’m not into science fiction.
More to the point, what does anybody "know?"
that’s too bad you are not interested in listening and watching because we won’t have the genius of Hawking much longer and his ideas of the possibilities of what we do not know are facsinating,
the Big Bang, “worm holes” and time travel were the sci fi of 1950 but the real frontier of galactic science today
