he furor over Arizona's new law cracking down on illegal immigrants grew Monday as opponents used refried beans to smear swastikas on the state Capitol, civil rights leaders demanded a boycott of the state, and the Obama administration weighed a possible legal challenge.
Activists are planning a challenge of their own, hoping to block the law from taking effect by arguing that it encroaches on the federal government's authority to regulate immigration and violates people's constitutional rights by giving police too much power.
The measure set to take effect in late July or early August would make it a crime under state law to be in the U.S. illegally. It directs state and local police to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal.
"If you look or sound foreign, you are going to be subjected to never-ending requests for police to confirm your identity and to confirm your citizenship," said Alessandra Soler Meetze, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona, which is exploring legal action.
Employees at the Capitol came to work Monday to find that vandals had smeared swastikas on the windows. And protesters gathered for an eighth straight day to speak out against a law they say will lead to rampant racial profiling of anyone who looks Hispanic. The White House would not rule out the possibility that the administration would take legal action against Arizona. President Barack Obama, who warned last week that the measure could lead to police abuses, asked the Justice Department to complete a review of the law's implications before deciding how to proceed.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon said the law is discriminatory and warned that trade and political ties with Arizona will be seriously strained by the crackdown.

Oooh, yeah, refried beans as the newest superweapon within the illegal alien arsenal of defiance! We might as well just simply declare the southern border of the US permanently dismantled.
But the first thing comes to mind is that lord McCain has been neutered. And strike two against him, after the Supremes struck down his free speech prohibition. I can only ‘hope’ strike three comes in November and he can go and graze on the ‘green’ grass of the mountains of Arizona.
Also, I wonder now that Saint Teddy has been planted six feet under, and his legacy of deathcare for US became the law of the land, lacks the dollars required to fund illegal healthcare, so the states are on their own as to how to implement BamBamKennedy care.
Yeah why should we wonder why Mexicans can't win a war against drug cartels.
LoL! LoL! BwahhaaaHaa haaa!
Looks like I'll plan another vacation to Arizona. Beautiful state. Last time I was there I enjoyed a hot-air balloon ride followed by wine and lunch. Sedona is gorgeous. Flagstaff is great. Then there's the drive to the Grand Canyon. Next vacation will be even more pleasant with the crackdown on illegals!
Because of this and all the other crap going down, a lot of Rats are going to vote conservative in the privacy of the ballot box.
Exactly...this will boost the economy of Arizona...not hurt it as activists suggest.
This is what has to happen when this sort of crap goes on for way too long.
She was mexican. Hubby Jose Corona is the main suspect.
Arizona is just doing the work that the Feds won’t do.
“Traitors and Lawbreakers Angry”
Here’s hoping illegal immigrants (and all their sympathizers) follow Al Sharpton’s lead and boycott Arizona. If they do, it’ll be a much better state.
LEGAL
IN
ARIZONA
What’s so difficult about showing a green card to law enforcement personnel?
We all show our driver’s license upon request...to LEOs, or to clerks in department stores and grocery stores when we write a check.
We have to show hunting and fishing licenses to wildlife officers.
There are any number of occasions when all citizens are requested to show proof of identification, etc., for any number of reasons.
It is beyond ridiculous for proper papers not to be shown under these circumstances when the abuse of our laws have become epidemic.
lets play that race card one more time
Add to that FAA pilot's and maintenance licenses. I have both and if the FAA asks I have to produce them. I sure don't feel violated to do so.
Well said...
I’d add that if the very first act that any person who comes to America is to break the law (illegal entry), then really what laws matter from that point on...
“the furor over Arizonas new law”
And where is the furor coming from? From the lawbreakers incited by their political enablers.
And this same AP and their ilk have the gall to chastise the very peaceful tea parties as potentially inciting violence, yet they fail to condemn the actual violence carried out by these protesters.
