Arizona Governor Jan Brewer last week signed a new law into effect that authorizes local police to stop and verify the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 60% of voters nationwide favor such a law, while 31% are opposed.
Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Republicans support the law along with 62% of voters not affiliated with either major party. Democratic voters are evenly divided on the measure.
At the same time, however, 58% of all voters are at least somewhat concerned that efforts to identify and deport illegal immigrants will also end up violating the civil rights of some U.S. citizens. That figure includes 29% who are Very Concerned about possible civil rights violations.....

To put it in a nut shell, this is certainly no way to live!
I’m sure you could live with the terms. Are you unable to speak English? Have no permanent address?
I could understand checking the ID of people who have been arrested for a crime. But to stop people to just check if they have proper documentation on them? How do they remove a person’s, the checking officer, instincts as to who looks to be a citizen or not and institute a set of government rules? And what are the rules to be? It boils down to the question, “Who looks American?”
The article and posters’ contention that the popularity of the law is a base for keeping it is as bad a premise as the masses electing a guy because they thinks he’s black and cool.
We need to deport or imprison all illegals, seal the border and have an armed response to anyone trying to sneak back in.
I think the law specifically states that the cops are not supposed to “racially profile.”
Besides, what if my name is Hernandez and I’m the son of a recent (legal) immigrant and can fluently speak both Mexican Spanish and English (I’m not and I can’t, but...) and hang with with crowd of other “Hispanics” possibly including illegals? I just wanted to know what the means of determining my citizenship would be.
It is also kind of reassuring to know that unless someone makes trouble, they won’t come to the attention of the cops.
Whatever it takes!
If illegal white women were blowing up buildings, I was pulled over for being a white woman, and asked for my ID, I'd understand. I'd want the illegals caught as much as any other American. Who wants buildings being blown up? I'd be happy to cooperate, because I'm not the one blowing up the buildings! Go ahead. Check me out - please. Catch those bi-ches.

I get stopped every time I go to El Paso and return.
“My husband says that we should send Obama to Arizona and let them verify his proof of citizenship. LOL!”
