Cal-DOT is planning to spend $935,000 to cement part of Blocker Beach to create a channel for steelhead. This is to 'help' the fish get to the SantA Monica Mtns for spawning. This is a paraphrase, due to AP-FR agreements; follow the link to read the actual story.

It is. It even sounds too stupid for them. I bet only the media and government bureaucrats thinks it makes any sense for a bankrupt state to spend that to HELP fish.

It’s a good thing their state budget is balanced and their economy is so strong. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to afford important programs like this.

Why wouldn’t they do this? Hell, they cut off water to the farmers for the fish. If they would just keep their hands out of nature, it will take care of itself. They’re a bunch of fools.

Not a good use of cash.

I’m a fish hugger. The fish need to traverse the beach / estuary on their own.

The best bang for the buck is usually trees in the riparian strip along the spawning creeks to keep temperatures down, and the purposeful construction of perfect spawning channels.

You can really increase natural / native steelhead production by creating a spawning channel with just the right access, flow, cover, gravel, oxygenation, low summer temperature etc. I’ve seen these channels just churned up with hundreds of spawning fish.

It is hard to imagine “Beach” access for fish to be a problem. They will just wait for a nice big storm to put a lot of water over the bar / estuary, and go up then. Concrete is just a waste of cash. IMHO.

Um, Kalifornia has a rather extensive role in feeding America, not just Leftafornia.

With their policies they’d starve. They already started turning water to farmers off in some places.

That behavior is designed to effect the availability and prices of food. Being distracted by the ‘little fishes need the water’ crap is exactly what the fascists expect to happen. Don’t help the bastards.

Same as salmon & steelhead do at the Columbia, the Rogue, the Smith, the Klamath, and all the ones in between, and a host of others.
