I was living in Texas when the ‘89 tornado came through. We moved here in ‘92 and when I was working at Boeing back then and someone brought in a photo album of the pictures with all the damage and the cars and trucks with HUMONGOUS “X’s” spray painted on them signifying they had been searched for victims or survivors and we were living just a little south of Airport back then. WHOA baby I was shocked. At the time, I thought tornado alley was in West Texas up through OK & KS and NOT here. Boy was that an eye opener.

It was really scary. I had many friends who lost their houses with that outbreak. Another friend and her three kids were almost sucked out their car windows.

I was living in Stevenson at the time. Stevenson is north on 72 past Scottsboro. The same tornado system had a twister go through our next door neighbor’s property. We were totally untouched.

I find tornados the most terrifying weather phenomena.

I think Auburn is clear now. I’m heading to bed.
