The Arizona legislature has now passed the toughest measure against illegal immigration in the country, authorizing local police to stop and check the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 70% of likely voters in Arizona approve of the legislation, while just 23% oppose it.

Greg Jarrett just pointed out that the law is pretty much word-for-word what is in the federal law.
So, Obama must think that federal law is “misguided.”
BTTT
LOL—works for me!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU, Carry_Okie, for this information.
It’s great ammunition!
Thanks for the link. And as someone pointed out on another site, the wording or section is not there.
Is there a typo in the reference location? I ask because when I search for that USC location, I don’t see that text anywhere.
http://law.cornell.edu/uscode/8/usc_sec_08_00001324——000-.html
There are no subsections to 8 USC 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv)
I’m willing to stand corrected if you’ve got the goods on this one.
I don't know. As the post says, I got the info from Tornadoalley3. This is obviously not the language of the Statute, probably an interpretation of the section.
I should have pinged you all to my question to Carry_Okie in #87.
I wish this USC quote were true, but at this point, it appears to have been made up by someone upline from us (not Carry_Okie).
Then there is this article, which might or might not be accurate:
http://blog.law.cornell.edu/tbruce/2009/10/19/hey-joe-whaddaya-know/
OK. I apologize if I made this sound like I was attacking you. I just want to be sure of what the USC really says before passing this on.
How are we to know that Cornell Univesity Law School isn’t feeding us disinformation?
I would trust an anti-immigrant oline group long before trusting those left-wingers at Cornell!
This is what I found:
(c) Authority to arrest
No officer or person shall have authority to make any arrests for a violation of any provision of this section except officers and employees of the Service designated by the Attorney General, either individually or as a member of a class, and all other officers whose duty it is to enforce criminal laws.
The Arizona law just might be in deep kim-chee.
He will disregard it.
The will of the people doesn’t matter one bit to him.
You have much more to fear from those who OPPOSE this bill than those who support it.
0bama and his ilk are the biggest Jew haters in the country.
Not at all! It was a legitimate question and I had not done the homework.
Well, here is 8 USC 1324 directly from GPO Access:
Do you see the text anywhere in that section? If so, please let us know where.
The text at that URL is dated Jan 3, 2007, but as I understand it, there have been no modifications since then.
I’m beginning to wonder if anyone on FR does their own research anymore. We used to have dozens of real researchers. These days, it seems everyone just passes on what someone else has posted if it agrees with their views.
I’m not a researcher, but when I have time, I do a little Internet searching to confirm what is said here. This time, it has created a bit of a stir.
Yes, I read that, too. I agree it looks like the Arizona law will be zotted.
Darn it.
What I found contradicted what Carrie_Oakie posted. See my post at #92.
Bring it on ‘Bammy!!
I’m so frustrated by this that I was bound to go too far and offend someone. I aplogize to you. I posted #96, then returned to My Pings and saw your post where you had found the same thing.
So, you WERE doing your own research, just not fast enough to avoid my harangue, which I apologize for.
:-(
