Miss Me Yet? The Freedom Agenda After George W. Bush
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 04-24-10 | BARI WEISS

Posted on 04/23/2010 4:06:46 PM PDT by GOP_Lady

Dissidents in the world's most oppressive countries aren't feeling the love from President Obama.

No one seems to know precisely who is behind the "Miss Me Yet?" billboard—the cheeky one featuring a grinning George W. Bush that looks out over I-35 near Wyoming, Minn. But Syrian dissident Ahed Al-Hendi sympathizes with the thought.

In 2006, Mr. Hendi was browsing pro-democracy Web sites in a Damascus Internet café when plainclothes cops carrying automatic guns swooped in, cuffed him, and threw him into the trunk of a car. He spent over a month in prison, some of it alone in a 5-by-3 windowless basement cell where he listened to his friend being tortured in the one next door. Those screams, he says, were cold comfort—at least he knew his friend hadn't been killed.

Mr. Hendi was one of the lucky ones: He's now living in Maryland as a political refugee where he works for an organization called Cyberdissidents.org. And this past Monday, he joined other international dissidents at a conference sponsored by the Bush Institute at Southern Methodist University to discuss the way digital tools can be used to resist repressive regimes.

He also got to meet the 43rd president. In a private breakfast hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Bush, Mr. Hendi's message to the former president was simple: "We miss you." There have been "a lot of changes" under the current administration, he added, and not for the better.

Obama is horrid, but I still don't miss George Bush in the least

Not in the least?

Let's see.......that means you don't miss a President with:

*Courage
*Class*Integrity
*Honor
*A strong pro-life record (better than any other before him
*Love of the military, and mutual respect and love from them
*Willingness to fight the enemy at the expense of his own popularity
*Love of country and deep patriotism

It seems that even if you are a pure and holy conservative, that you would miss something about him.

That you don't seems to say more about you than it does about him.

No, it's not all you ask for. You have stated that in your previous posts.

The person you are looking for, most likely doesn't exist, and as soon as the next conservative President comes along, you'll be disappointed in him or her as well for not "listening" to you.

President Bush gave us a whole slew of Constitution-honoring judges and two stellar Originalist SC Justices who are keeping our democracy together by a thread, along with another nominated by his father, and the other by Reagan.

But that's not good enough. Nothing ever will be.

“I often asked who they had ever agreed with 100% of the time, but .....

I never received an answer.”
I am shocked :) you never received an answer.

I admit to using the “ i didn’t agree with him 100%” line myself.

I have since learned some of the charges even some RINOs made was not true.
For instance i did not know he tried many many times to halt the housing crisis before it got too late.

Then there is the prescription Part D. Dems especially say it was unfunded. Interesting that except for the first year Part D has always cost LESS than it was projected to cost and better yet.
for every $1.00 spent on meds under part D there is a savings of OVER $ 2.00 to Medicare. Now that is a cost saving program
We will never hear about it from MSM

If President Bush had used the bully pulpit even 1/0th of the time that we are forced to see the jug-eared Kenyan Kommunist on our telvision sets on a daily basis, the country, WOT, GOP and military would be a lot better off.

IMO.

Thanks for the ping.

From the article

-- snip --

Mr. Hendi elaborated on the policy changes he thinks Mr. Obama has made toward his home country. "In Syria, when a single dissident was arrested during the administration of George W. Bush, at the very least the White House spokesman would condemn it. Under the Obama administration: nothing."

-- snip --

On the other hand 0bama condemned the new Arizona law and we all know why, don't we? He wants to give the illegals amnesty as fast possible and give them immediately citizenship so they will vote for the Rats. He is not fooling anyone

“we are forced to see the jug-eared Kenyan Kommunist on our telvision sets on a daily basis,”

This is why I ditched tv, I just couldn’t take jug-ears beating his gums together anymore!!!

To your post #70:

The contrast pointed out in your first snip couldn’t be more striking.

Oblablah condemning the new Arizona law so publicly is bizzare, until you consider his goal. This administration is NUTS! And you’re right, they aren’t fooling anyone.

Well, Putin came to mind. I think he was one that said that he could see Bush was an honorable man and would stand by his word. Jacque Chirac was probably not a fan of Bush.

this “On the other hand 0bama condemned the new Arizona law and we all know why, don’t we?”
yes we do, and the people who understand and support odumbo’s faux indignation are his fellow dems.

I am just thankful therre seem to be enough of us to stop this. Without a place like Free Republic it could get easy to really think you are racist if you want illegals sent back.

"He should have used it more" often morphs into "it's all his fault" on this forum.

There is a difference between wishing he had used the bully pulpit more and the commonly used, but highly erroneous and fact-deptrived accusation that George W. Bush gave us Barack Obama.

Hind sight is perfect. Being President is much more complicated, and all we can ask of our Presidents is that they give us and our beloved country their best.

President Bush most certainly did.

There are two kinds of sane Americans, those who miss George W. Bush and those who ARE GOING TO! Only the fools will not miss him a year from now.

I sure miss him. I didn’t wake up every morning in mortal fear for our country.

Exactly! How soon it is forgotten.
