Dissidents in the world's most oppressive countries aren't feeling the love from President Obama.
No one seems to know precisely who is behind the "Miss Me Yet?" billboardthe cheeky one featuring a grinning George W. Bush that looks out over I-35 near Wyoming, Minn. But Syrian dissident Ahed Al-Hendi sympathizes with the thought.
In 2006, Mr. Hendi was browsing pro-democracy Web sites in a Damascus Internet café when plainclothes cops carrying automatic guns swooped in, cuffed him, and threw him into the trunk of a car. He spent over a month in prison, some of it alone in a 5-by-3 windowless basement cell where he listened to his friend being tortured in the one next door. Those screams, he says, were cold comfortat least he knew his friend hadn't been killed.
Mr. Hendi was one of the lucky ones: He's now living in Maryland as a political refugee where he works for an organization called Cyberdissidents.org. And this past Monday, he joined other international dissidents at a conference sponsored by the Bush Institute at Southern Methodist University to discuss the way digital tools can be used to resist repressive regimes.
He also got to meet the 43rd president. In a private breakfast hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Bush, Mr. Hendi's message to the former president was simple: "We miss you." There have been "a lot of changes" under the current administration, he added, and not for the better.

The AWB expired in 2004 and Bush did not reauthorize or sign any gun bans. I don't know what EOs you're talking about, but then you're a liar so I don't expect a truthful post from you.
Yep. Funny how he pulled that 2003 thread up, ain’t it? They’re all the same..no matter what new name they suck under.
I think the appropriate words are.........”Get a room!” ;)
We Dare Defend Our Rights!
“However, it appears that you cannot engage in civil discourse and prefer to bait. “
I’ve tried civil discourse - and I am still maintaining more civility than my opposition, but civil discourse is pointless when the response is a constant stream of LIAR! and HATER!
If they want us to believe Bush was a conservative President (thus defining “conservative” to the voter), then they should be willing to defend the liberal parts of his agenda. They can’t do that, so they just yell and scream.
*** Warning *** Warning ***
The posse has been called in.
(1) www.google.com
(2) enter “Bush AWB sign freerepublic” in the search bar (I figured you'd actually read an FR link)
(3) click “Google Search”
Enjoy.
Called me a "Bushbot" too.
Clever.
So your status as a liar continues.
You were Captain Queeg in a previous life, weren't you?
“The AWB expired in 2004 and Bush did not reauthorize or sign any gun bans.”
Only because it didn't get to his desk. That's like the argument that he wasn't for amnesty because he didn't get to sign it.
“I don't know what EOs you're talking about, but then you're a liar so I don't expect a truthful post from you.”
Bush senior signed one. Clinton signed three.
I love you. Deeply and from the bottom of my heart.
Let’s hit it.

Laz, my love!
What this? No long term romance?
His press guy's statement was well noted on gun forums at the time.
“Like I said, the AWB died in 2004, with no action by that famous gun-grabber, GW Bush, far after your favorite thread.”
Congress didn't pass it, so he didn't get to sign it. His Administration said he'd sign it, given the chance.
“So your status as a liar continues.”
LOL. Really, now. What a strange world you live in.
oh no, ohioWfan. Not just a room! Only the honeymoon suite. We're talking "true love" here.
The reason is, even the things I disagreed with, like CFR, I understood his thinking and his reason for signing. It wasn't his bill. He didn't want it and his signature didn't make him a "liberal". Like he says today, he miscalculated the Supreme Court's action. That doesn't make him a fraud or a fake conservative...that makes him wrong. Big difference.
Like you, the other lying Bush-haters who have polluted FR for 10 years, defend every misguided action by Ron Paul or Pat Buchanan, but see only evil in the Bush mistakes. That's why you're a liar and you suck.
We all have to be careful in these desperate times, and I do think that they are desperate, the worst thing we can do is end up like those pups, attacking one another. Tension is high. Fear is beginning to raise it's head, and people are sensing that there is something in the air that is not right. I pray to God that we can all hang together to continue to fight for our Republic, to pray for one another as we fight the good fight, and remember that on the edges of our opinions, we are going to see differences; but at the core, we all believe in freedom and none of us want to lose it. God Bless us all.
By the way, my late father and I had come to recognize that Bush, when he refused to address the borders was not leaning as far right as we wanted him to. I agree with some of your observations about Bush. Seeing him on the ranch and with his arm around Laura still makes me misty; but no, he wasn't quite as right as I needed him to be.
LOL. and the new name really SUCKS.
Well, don't let me keep you from your destination........... ;)
I've lost interest in debating anyone who starts off calling me a liar. I don't think you are capable beyond that.
“The reason is, even the things I disagreed with, like CFR, I understood his thinking and his reason for signing.”
He signed a bill he KNEW was un-Constitutional in direct violation of his oath of office. That's the big disconnect between Republicans and Conservatives - somethings are just WRONG and must be opposed because they are WRONG.
Who's pinged his parents?
I'm distracted by love. Priorities, ya know?
“This reminds me of when someone comes to my door and my three little dogs run to the door in a frenzy and start barking. “
I can relate.
“I pray to God that we can all hang together to continue to fight for our Republic, to pray for one another as we fight the good fight, and remember that on the edges of our opinions, we are going to see differences; but at the core, we all believe in freedom and none of us want to lose it.”
The trouble is that I’m not so sure about that last part. I don’t think we all want freedom. Too many are willing to trade it so their team “wins”.
Or...
How 'bout you find George Bush saying anything anti-gun or anti-2nd amendment or find any bill he signed that called for any anti-gun laws.
You can't because you're a liar.
