Thousands of teachers and other union workers descended on the state Capitol on Wednesday and chanted "raise my taxes" to try to pressure politicians to avoid major budget cuts.
The vibe was the exact opposite of what you'd find at a tea party rally. But the loud chants barely resonated inside the Capitol, where lawmakers are trying to exit Springfield in a couple of weeks without voting for a tax increase that could jeopardize their re-election chances in little more than six months.
"If you try to leave town without doing your job, we're going to chase you," warned union leader Henry Bayer at a rally that drew an estimated 15,000 people the biggest at the Capitol since the era of the Equal Rights Amendment more than a quarter-century ago.
"These 177 people who have a job don't want to do their job," said Bayer, executive director of Council 31 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. "Yes, people are hurting. That's why we need a tax increase."
But that job has a different definition for each of the 177 members in the House and Senate, and signs of any income tax proposal passing the legislature this spring are hard to find.
Gov. Pat Quinn is out front pushing his 33 percent increase in the income tax rate, but he's getting lonely. Many lawmakers don't want to take more money out of people's wallets as unemployment remains high in Illinois, yet groups that receive tax money said Quinn's proposed tax hike isn't big enough to help bridge a deficit that's expected to reach $13 billion if nothing is done.

AH-Not Chicago then...lol....oh well...poor souls. So damaged from the liberal treatment of years and years of poor schooling and big time promises of encouragement to be lazy and dependent.
It must have been a coordinated effort. The union punks were also in Sacramento

Greece has come to Illinois.
Public employees and union types, bused in by the Hussein administration.
This is the result of a cost-benefit analysis. These people expect to get more back than they pay in taxes.
It wasn’t a rally, it was the world’s largest panhandle.
“Yes, people are hurting. That’s why we need a tax increase.”
I guess the “people-are-hurting” market is set to show an increase.

Obama will declare "the people have spoken" when he officially renegs on his promise to not raise taxes on those earning less than $250k a year.
and unionized government school teachers
And I wonder what is the standing of the schools these union teachers. More than likely they couldn’t pass an 8th grade exam and the government workers look at a pot hole for two weeks before they start to fill it and then it takes 6 more workers to do it.
“If you try to leave town without doing your job, we’re going to chase you,” warned union leader Henry Bayer .
Union Leader Henry Bayer: What is his job?
When Obama was giving his victory speech in the park, there thousands of people watching and periodically some were being interviewed.
My husband and I heard one interview that made our jaws drop.
A young woman was asked what she thought about Obama winning the election. And she said something like, “Now that he’s elected I won’t have to worry about my car payment, or my house payment, or anything like that!”
That kind of set the tone, in my book... it showed me just how far we have fallen.
OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS SO FUNNY!!!! Did you make that up? Can we use it! I’d love to print out a few and stick up on some MCDonald’s menu boards...just to give the public a good laugh!
Yes. It is a low point right now. And it makes me so sad because it did not have to happen. Corruption within the democrat party has left an entire race behind the eight ball as it were.
