Scientists: EPA 'Distorting' Biofuels Reality
Big Government ^ | 4/23/10 | Capitol Confidential

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is facing renewed criticism this week with scientists charging that the government arm inaccurately labeled ethanol a “renewable fuel” last February.

According to reports, at the same time that it revised its renewable fuel standards, the EPA also re-ran numbers relating to corn-based ethanol’s lifecycle emissions, and determined that ethanol was responsible for substantially less greenhouse-gas emissions than gasoline, thus allowing it to be redesignated as “renewable.” But, scientists argue, the underlying data remained the same, and demonstrated that ethanol was not a “green” energy source. Nonetheless, they charge, the EPA presented the data in a way that allowed for ethanol to be categorized in a different manner. That, critics say, raises questions about the agency’s independence and pursuit of its mission, as opposed to execution of a political agenda.

How about someone launching a study of the millions of dollars in damage done to a wide class of engines due to the use of ETHANOL laced fuel. Marine engines, such as mine, rendered unusable due to contanimation, small use engines ruined because of ethanol damage from not being used every single day, dissolving fuel tank that fed sludge into fuel lines and then into the engine, airplane motors damaged due to the plane sitting for too long allowing the ethanol/gas mixture to separate. And that’s for starters.
That is the type of study that is needed.

We’re the EPA. We don’t need no stinkin’ scientific facts.

So called bio fuels whether made from corn, soybeans, grass or garbage cost more to produce than what they can be sold for in a free market. The government has to rise prices of other carbon fuels or subsidize the bio fuel makers. The government is doing both right now for corn ethanol and this fuel is hard on engines, hoses and has less bang in it compared to gasoline or diesel. The EPA and greenies are doing this for reasons other than the so called environment crisis, it’s for big government and control.

How soon we forget that Ethenol gets gummy in the cold winter months. One other problem with the hybrid cars, here in the Las Vegas desert, car batteries only last two years and then you have to replace them. Biohazard?

Not only that, but ethanol results in lower MPG. Some say as much as 10%. We may as well just put water in the gas.

As for ethanol’s effect on engine performance, remember the old joke....Knock! Knock! Who’s There? Ethanol
