Parents Not Happy With T.I. School Visit (principle's rude Bush insulting note to parents)

HENRY COUNTY, GA -- Out of jail and doing community service, Clifford "T.I." Harris made a trip to Woodland Middle School in Henry County on March 5, an unwanted surprise for one family.

Tom Myers was surprised when his daughter came home and told him that T.I. had been the speaker at the assembly on anti bullying. Myers told 11Alive News that had he known T.I. was speaking, he would not have allowed his daughter to attend. So he wrote an e-mail to Woodland's principal, Dr. Terry Oatts.

"The first e-mail I sent to him was to ask that from now on we have some kind of parental input whether or not a speaker is appropriate. If I don't want my child to be there, just give me the right to opt them out," Myers said.

Myers also wrote in the e-mail, "How about next time, let him mow the grass or pick up the trash around the school grounds? If the kids see that they might understand that what he did was wrong."

In e-mails obtained by 11Alive News, Oatts replied in his e-mail, "I thought about asking a guy who snorted cocaine and got arrested for DUI when he was 30 to come and speak to our kids, but President George W. Bush was not available."

Oatts went on to write in the exchanges with Myers that even the president made mistakes when he was young, and that T.I.'s messages to the students was 'to take their education seriously, put forth their best effort, pursue their dreams and not engage in bullying.'

But the bottom line, to Tom and Candi Myers, is that they didn't want their daughter to be at that assembly. School officials say parents were notified of the assembly but that T.I. was a surprise guest.

Myers admits T.I. encouraged the kids to study and work hard, but he's not convinced.

"T.I.'s an actor and he can sit down and act with the best of them. He's an entertainer. That's what he does," Myers said.

I don’t agree with the parents’ views of W but they should have a right to opt out of these sorts of things if that is their wish.

Let me guess...

this “anti-bullying” seminar was pretty much

“don’t tell the gay kids that their orientation is aberrant”.

“T.I.’s an actor and he can sit down and act with the best of them. He’s an entertainer. That’s what he does,” Myers said.

I had to google this entertainer since I have never heard of him.

Is a rapper entertainment?

one wonders about the competency of a school board that would hire such an unnprofessional bozo as a principal.

and one wonders about said school board’s action, or lack there of, in disciplining the aforementioned unprofessional bozo.

reflects real good upon them.

Why don’t you ground your helicopter, let the school teach your kids, and you parent them when they are at home? Can you imagine the administrative burden of giving parents the ability to opt their kids out of various activities?

I let my kids learn what the school teaches them, and give them a broader or different perspective as situations warrant. They’re doing just fine.

Well, the principal should NOT use the occasion to spout his warped political view, or any political view.
The attack on Bush was grotesque.

So, the principal responds to the parent’s concerns about an anti-bullying speaker is a snide e-mail. Looks to me like the principal is trying to bully the parents.....

Myers wants the school to **give** him a right??? Huh?

Who's the parent? Is the Meyer the parent or the school? When did the school have the power to hand out “rights” like candy?

UNBELIEVABLE!

I bet Meyer was indoctrinated in his government school to be a good little prisoner of the state. He learned to grovel and beg for “permission” from petty little bureaucrats.

The “seat hours” that a student sits in a secular (de)humanist indoctrination facility

cannot be countered with a few hours a week at home.

So why didn't this "principle" make a point by highlighting the current president's past illegal drug use?

Plus "O" smokes cigarettes today... isn't that supposed to be evil according to bleeding heart liberals?

If the school would teach what a school is supposed to teach that would be fine. But would you be happy when a child is being told by “teachers” that having two mommies is okay? Or how about it’s okay to use drugs. Bottom line is the school should stick to what they’re there for. But they’re not.

I hope he meant option instead of right. Looking at the context, tht appears to be what he was talking about.

But, this is an example of people using language incorrectly. Words do mean things.

The people answering that phone number will simply keep transferring your call until you give up.

That said, I made my point to every single person who had the misfortune of taking my call.
