Evangelist Franklin Graham said Thursday that he regrets the Army's decision to rescind its invitation to him for the Pentagon's National Day of Prayer service on May 6, but expressed "strong support" for the U.S. military.
An Army spokesman confirmed to Fox News that the invitation to Graham to be honorary chairman at the event was rescinded amid complaints from Muslim members of the military about his description of Islam as an evil religion.
The Army spokesman said the event will go forward but without the National Day of Prayer Task Force participating.
"I regret that the Army felt it was necessary to rescind their invitation to the National Day of Prayer Task Force to participate in the Pentagon's special prayer service," Graham said in a written statement.
"I want to expresses my strong support for the United States military and all our troops," he added. "I will continue to pray that God will give them guidance, wisdom and protection as they serve this great country."
Earlier Thursday, Graham stuck by his remarks about Islam, including that Muslims are "enslaved" by their religion,
Franklin, the son of famed evangelist Billy Graham, told Fox News that he loves Muslim people and wants them to know that God loves them, even if they can be saved only through Jesus Christ.
"I want them to know that they don't have to die in a car bomb, don't have to die in some kind of holy war to be accepted by God. But it's through faith in Jesus Christ and Christ alone," Graham said.
Graham said said he loves the Muslim people, just not their religion -- which he called "horrid" for its restrictions on women.

“My, have things changed. I was honored to have Rev. Franklin Graham speak at my Governors Prayer Breakfasts. His good work in Alaskas Native villages and his charitable efforts all over the world stem from his servants heart. In my years of knowing him, Ive never found his tempered and biblically-based comments to be offensive in fact his words have been encouraging and full of real hope.
“Its truly a sad day when such a fine patriotic man, whose son is serving on his fourth deployment in Afghanistan to protect our freedom of speech and religion, is dis-invited from speaking at the Pentagons National Day of Prayer service. His comments in 2001 were aimed at those who are so radical that they would kill innocent people and subjugate women in the name of religion.
“Are we really so hyper-politically correct that we cant abide a Christian minister who expresses his views on matters of faith? What a shame. Yes, thing have changed.”

In saner times...there would have been courts-martial for these military leaders who do stunts like these....kicking out a Christian minister for accurately portraying what another “faith” does.
We cannot win the war against Islamic Terrorism if we let the Islamics run our military.
Army spokesman said the event (the “unconstitutional” Day of Prayer) will go forward but without the National Day of Prayer Task Force participating..”
anyone want to bet they’ll be wailing prayers to Allah from the Pentagon as co-opted ministers, priests, and a token rabbi stand by approvingly??
Yeah, agree. Personally, it is my antedoctal observation that there's actually no such thing as a moderate islamist. Even those who are in the various professions and there are many; engineers, accountants, etc, etc, if the truth could be found out, more than likely financially support groups linked to terrorists.
One must ask who is now invited at Pentagon’s National Day of Prayer service. Will other evangelicals show solidarity with Rev. Graham? Will we get quasi one like Rick Warren?
Islam is not a religion,
It is a ideology based on world domination masquerading as a religion.
No other religion requires total submission or death.
Islam does.!
ISLAM IS TERRORISM BY IT’S VERY NATURE
...next? Christian chaplains being booted from the military. Think it can’t happen?
Well said by Sarah Palin as usual.
“CAIR at work with the help and assistance of the WH administration”
Yep! ;-(
“...next? Christian chaplains being booted from the military. Think it cant happen?
I fully expect this to happen....particularly after the repeal of “Don’t ask, Don’t tell.”
From the commander-in-chief, maybe?
Where’s that list where the Muslim pop. percentages are linked to the mischief they cause? Is the military over 5% already?
9/11 forgotten. I knew it would be. (sarcasm)
My commute takes me on the Pentagon grounds 4 times every weekday. I remember 9/11 every single time...and then some.
and I'm ashamed of the Army's decision to dis invite a good man...but now if this was Jackson or Sharpton that would be another story...
just wonder what our Nations Memorial Day Holiday will look like this year????
Any answer true to Islam would have made Graham's remarks sound tame by comparison.
I have heard that a fish rots from the head down. It is the same with organizations. I fear the military has been compromised at the top.
