Blagojevich Judge Calls Emergency Meeting

The judge presiding over former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's corruption trial called an emergency meeting Thursday evening after information that was intended to remain under seal was released to the public in a defense filing to subpoena President Barack Obama.

Judge James B. Zagel scheduled a 6 p.m. hearing in his chambers to question attorneys about why the redacted information was readable, according to reports.

But Blagojevich's attorneys denied that interpretation. When asked whether the meeting concerned the redacted documents, attorney Sheldon Sorosky responded simply "no."

The defense motion, filed Thursday afternoon, request to call President Obama as a corroborating witness and argued that Obama could verify that Blagojevich didn't try to sell his seat.

The filing contained several paragraphs that had been blacked out electronically. However, the underlying text was easily viewable in the electronic cersion of the document if a reader simply copied-and-pasted the paragraphs into another program.

The failure to properly redact is a relatively common one in government circles.

I think you’ve mistaken the CBOE for the CBOT which is now part of CME Group. CBOE is an options exchange - powerful in its own right, but not like the CME.

Of course Obama is involved. First of all, he had no idea about this investigation, at least I will assume this. He was just doing business the “Chicago Way”, and when it came out the FBI was involved, Rahmbo became an ‘informant’.

I actually just ran across that thread a bit ago about Obama’s plan moving a LOT from NY to Chicago in the guise of protecting the middle class (Yay, right!). It adds an interesting angle to the story as well... Perhaps it’s Obama’s “Bribe” to Daley to help get him off the hook — to prove he’s still worth something to Daley?

As I said earlier on the thread, I’m speculating with all of these things. I’m definitely NOT an expert either, and my only “line” on Chicago comes from my experience reading the papers and watching the nightly news growing up and spending half of my 20s in the area...

I need to read up more on the economic aspect, but that’s my take from simply scanning it and in light of these goings-on the last few days.

I was looking over at the HillBuzz site, and realized that isn’t where I saw the “rumors” of Fitzpatrick’s investigation back in October ‘08. I believe it was on a Hillary/PUMA Message Board. My computer has since died twice, and I definitely don’t have it bookmarked anymore...

Do you happen to remember the article/rumors I’m talking about, or where they came from? What I’m referring to were the PUMAs who right before the election started talking about the rumors floating in the halls of the Chicago Federal Courthouse, and Fitzpatrick’s office in particular about an investigation that would reach to the top levels of the DNC — then a few weeks after the election came Blago’s arrest. Now, the motion from today which implicates Obama (as lying to the FBI), Rahm, Rezko, a Union Official, and a Union President (Stern?), and implies ties between Obama, Rezko, and the Chicago Mob...

I’m trying to remember where I originally read the “rumors” report, and am drawing a blank now. Had thought it was HillBuzz, but can’t find what I’m looking for there, and realized it was a site that had a message board (was it actually Hillary’s campaign site? Gosh, I hope not... Probably long gone now if it was). Hoping one of you might remember, or perhaps pass this on to the list and that someone on it might remember this as well. I remember speculation that it might have involved Obama’s eligibility, but instead it was the Pay-to-Play scandal that broke.

I’m thinking of alternative ways to search for this — might do a google search for my own posts here at FR in that date period to find it... Just hoping someone remembers this more clearly than I! :)

Thanks! It is helping — I guess what the original thought was that it was the ACORN investigation that would indict Pelosi, Reid, and Dean. I do know it wasn’t on DU that I read the stuff from the PUMAs though! It was definitely several weeks before the election... OH!! Just remembered something. I think it was the same day the FBI raided the ACORN offices!
