Sue Lowden, the front-running Republican challenger to Sen. Harry Reid, yesterday doubled down on her idea that health care could be paid for using the barter system.
Last week, when Lowden suggested "that bartering is really good," it seemed that she may have been talking about haggling prices and just had her vocab mixed up. It happens to everyone.
But yesterday, on a local news program, Lowden seemed to double down on the idea. Asked whether the statement made her seem disconnected, she shot back that it's Reid who's disconnected for not knowing "that this is already happening in our state."
"Let's change the system and talk about what the possibilities are. I'm telling you that this works. You know, before we all started having health care, in the olden days, our grandparents, they would bring a chicken to the doctor. They would say I'll paint your house," she said. "[That's] what people would do to get health care with their doctors. Doctors are very sympathetic people."
"I'm not backing down from that system," she added.

“Does Hippa prevent gift-giving?”
You could give him/her up to $12,500/year as a tax free gift.
I dont know.
I’m just relaying what I was told by a Doctor.
I am going to have some minor surgery done later this month. I I will be bringing a turtle, a green parrot, myna bird, a beautiful swan , and two roosters and a plowhorse to the office in lieu of insurance.
Truth is a lot of small town doctors (yes there ares till a few) in poorer areas have done this for years. This new insurance bill, which is what it is, would make that illegal, just as it would make it illegal for medicare patients to pay what medicare doesn’t cover in order to get better care or care that isn’t covered.
While not many may care about this bartering thing, the very poor and some tribes have always done it that way, and they want to keep it, rather than lose their local doc!
Sue Lowden is onto something but made her point in s stupid and ridiculous manner. She will only be a Senator . .not like she will be President. Still, why not get someone who has some knowledge on how to string words together?
I am not convinced that this ends her candidacy. She is likable and people might still vote for her.
What station was she on when she said these things? Was she asked to explain it?
HIPPA laws have done enough to take away our freedoms regarding medical care and choices of doctors. This latest bill HAS TO GO!
My mother, who grew up on a farm in Orange County, Calif. remembers patients offering chickens as payment for a doctor’s services.
HIPPA laws prevent bartering according to my Doctor.”
The only thing HIPPA laws prevent is confidentiality of your medical records and efficiency of operation. Most docs will gladly negotiate fees for cash for basic medical in exchange for no paperwork.
I wrote the book on Harry Reid (literally, see my tagline and my profile) just because of this kind of potential for self destruction by local Republicans. It will be a close race.
Any help reviewing my book is appreciated.
You obviously have never met the woman. I have on numerous occasions. She is a self-centered, all about "me" kind of person. If she isn't the center of attention, she pouts or does something to turn it back to her. If she is speaking to someone she doesn't consider important she is constantly looking over their shoulder to see if someone more important is there.
Oh yeah - and she's a big-time RINO
Most of the polling though seems to be each candidate vs Harry Reid...not against each other. No offense to any of the candidates but I think my dog could beat Reid.
I contributed to his campaign but haven’t heard much lately about how he is faring as opposed to Lowden. He’s my choice and I hope he wins. Thanks for the update.
Like Democrats and Libertarians don’t say dumb things too?
