Of possible interest.
Thanks for this reminder. Back in the early Eighties, this financial disaster was a topic of one of my MBA profs (he lived in Argentina for 10 years). Apparently, few (including the Argentines) have learned the simple lessons.
Perhaps of interest.

Some years ago an American friend of mine married to an Argentinian woman told me this story. They were at a party and some guy was pontificating “if we had the blah, blah, blah, that the USA has, we could be the USA of South America.” My friend responded, “well, why don’t you try being the Sweden of South America.” That shut him up but good.
There was an Argentine movie called “A Shadow You Soon Will Be”. Incomprehensible 25 years ago, ominous now.
I was stationed in Buenos Aires 1986-1989. It was an economic basket then and it doesn’t seem to have improved any. Even though the Alfonsin “regime” tried its best, the unions could never get enough. The military tried several times to exert its influence and always ended up backing down. In the 19th Century, Argentina felt that they should be the pre-eminent power in the western hemisphere and to this day they resent the USA for grabbing that brass ring. Even though the Brits pretty much humilitated them in 1982, they STILL like the Brits better than they like us. Individually, Argies are great people, but collectively, they can be real pains. Beautiful women, outstanding steak, world class wine. What’s not to like?
Someone told me ,”The ego is the little Argentine inside every one of us.” :)
Does this mean that Michelle = Evita ?
The Obamas and Perons are as far apart as you could possibly get. The story is a long one and is badly if at all understood in the Anglo world as you can see here and there is no way to wish all of the Peron's policies on anybody, but Juan and Eva Peron basically invented the idea of a South American ruler actually giving a rat's ass about his or her people. The idea had never occurred to anybody prior to that.
Our esteemed correspondent makes the common ignorant mistake of believing The Won has America's best interests at heart.
Not only does he not believe it's inconceivable that a mighty nation such as the United States could go broke, he's doing everything he can to make it happen as soon as possible.
I’d never heard that, but it sure fits.
