The Problem With Palin
American Spectator ^ | April 19, 2010 | Quin Hillyer

Posted on 04/19/2010 5:52:15 AM PDT by reaganaut1

Sarah Palin, 55 percent unfavorable poll ratings notwithstanding, is a political phenomenon the likes of which American public life rarely has seen. There's something distinctive, something deeply personal, about the way her legions of strong supporters rush not just to defend her but to counter-attack any and all of her critics. Palin has a way of establishing a sense of connectedness with her backers -- such a strong, attitudinal sense that she is not just like them but one of them -- that she has created what amounts to a one-woman, conservative "identity politics" writ very, very large.

Yet if conservatives are to continue a political love affair with this admirable and galvanizing woman, we need to insist on more than mere identity. And more than mere attitude.

We know that Sarah Palin shares our conservative values. But is she the leader conservatives need?

IN HER RECENTLY RELEASED memoir, Going Rogue, Palin tells a story about how she approached the first state budget she handled as governor. It sounds like something right out of the 1993 Kevin Kline movie, Dave, except that Palin's tale is fact instead of fiction.

We worked late into the night with the warm midnight sun still pouring through my office windows....Pens in hand, we combed through the budget, line by line, page by page -- my inner nerd coming out again, just like Wasilla City Council days....I had to know what was in there, or I wasn't doing my job. We spent days trying to decipher who put in what and why. Late one night, I looked up from the table and asked our veteran staffers, "What did past governors do? How did they get through these budgets with so little detail?" "They didn't," was the response.

That is very true of honest, unbiased polls.

Unfortunately, at this point all the polls are essentially push polls funded by those that have a need to manipulate the voting public.

Honest scientific polling for the 2012 election will begin in the spring of 2012, when honest people will be willing to spent their money on real data.

“My prediction is she will sit out 2012 and scope out 2016”

.
Makes no sense!

Palin is extremely intelligent, and aware of the social and political realities that dictate that 2012 is the last chance we will have to salvage America.

By 2016 there will be use in running for anything if Obama and his thug congress haven’t been completely demolished in 2012. There is no other candidate that has a chance or any intention of doing that.

Most of them have such a limited view of the issues, and one based upon such irrelevent factors, that they are doomed to fecklessness.

-"Look at some his video clips and then picture him and Sarah on the same stage. No one else would stand a chance."

I wholeheartedly agree with what you say, and what makes me wish for this, is that these two would actually NOT TAKE IT from anyone. They would fight back tooth and nail against their critics - and not be content with just 'acting Presidential'.

-"She only had a year or two left on her term. Why not just ride it out and say she is not running for reelection? It would not have effected her run for the Presidency at all."

No offense, but I'm glad you're not her political advisor.

Anyone who views your postings as legitimate, thoughtful, and intellectually honest politcal commentary is wearing foggles. Your posting are just more automated mybarackobama.com tripe.

In the same position, governor with a possible shot at president, you would have remained in office, denied the Stare of Alaska full attention of it’s Governor, and bankrupted yourself on legal fees; all the while watching the country go to hell while Obama runs roughshod over linguine Republicans in Washington.

If you ever have Grandchildren, and they are able to grow up in a free and solvent United States of America, it will have been because Sarah Palin led the Restoration.

And if we demolish his Congress but he gets re-elected in 12? Sets them up pretty good for 16.

Are you denying it? It’s very clear to me when someone states that the article is nothing but opinions and doesn’t provide facts when the article is filled with facts about Sarah. Either the person didn’t read the article, or they chose to intentionally ignore the facts. That’s the choice, either they are stupid, or dishonest.

America will not be here in 2016 if Obama and his thugs are not removed. - We will no longer be a nation.

You have a trivial view of some serious issues.

The problem with Palin is that Quin Hillyer and most Republicans (the ones with horns) won't have access to the White House when she's elected.

They would rather have a liberal statist RINO sell the country down the river than give up the A list invites and the liberal praises from the "nice people" inside the beltway.

Hillyer whines 'cause he didn't get an interview. Hell hath no fury like a metro sexual scorned.

All that I have seen are just like this piece of excrement: full of emotional feelings and hate derrived opinions.

Predicting what will or will not happen in American politics two and a half years hence is indeed a trivial pursuit. You might as well try to predict the weather in Nov 2012 as predict who the candidates will be.

when she quit as Governor, she did not say she was quitting to run for President. She said she quit because the opposition was being mean and playing dirty politics. Why would I want someone like this for President? If you can't handle mean, dirty politicians in Alaska how are you going to handle them in Washington?
