SEOUL, April 19 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Myung-bak pledged Monday to take "resolute" measures against those responsible for the sinking of a South Korean naval ship last month as he consoled the nation over one the country's worst naval disasters.

"As the president, I will ascertain the cause of the Cheonan's sinking to the last detail," he said in his address broadcast live. "I will deal resolutely with the results and make sure such an incident does not recur."

...those responsible for the sinking of a South Korean naval ship...

Seems to me we used to call the intentional sinking of Navy ship an "act of war" and would respond accordingly. I think South Korea ought to treat it as such.

>>Ya think?<<

Well, apparently not, since we need an investigation to determine “who” did this.

Bangladesh, watch out, South Korea shall have her revenge!!!

Not if South Korea has diplomats quietly going to Pyongyang through China to tell them they know who did it, but it is not worth it for both to go to war over it, so that "we are going to make a lot of noise in the next few weeks when we release our findings, but don't get rattled. We need to save face publicly and rip you a new one. At any rate, just dont let it happen again."

They are Koreans. I am sure they are talking this Korean kabuki (even though kabuki is Japanese) as we SPEAK.

Keep in mind the explosion of the U.S.S. Maine in Havana harbor was used to justify war against Spain, and the evidence now overwhelmingly indicates the explosion was accidental.

There’s good reason to investigate and be absolutely sure.

Was it:
A) act of god
B) negligence of the victim
C) negligence on your neighbor's part (lost mine)
D) deliberate act by your neighbor
E) your neighbor is a deceitful asshole so make war on him already so we won't have to deal with more of these crises on a regular basis

Please circle one.

The truther idiots can't accept the OBL was responsible for those towers and a wing of the pentagon being utterly destroyed. They can't put two and two together or even take an admission of guilt at face value because they're blinded by their irrational hatred of US foreign policy, the perceived "military-industrial complex", etc.

Here's what bugs me most though. If we fail to contain the proliferation of honest-to-god weapons of mass destruction (i.e. nukes) by stopping little piddly rogue regimes like NoKo and Iran to heel, there could come a time when a WoMD just happens to go off over a population center somewhere in the world, resulting in huge numbers of deaths and a major war. Who's to be held responsible?

The situation in South Korea reminds me of the incident that sparked the Spanish American war. Remember the Maine? Our government didn't really know who was responsible and never figured it out, but we sure as hell didn't trust a certain bombastic European power that was at our doorstep causing trouble.

Perusal of a copy of Jane's coffee-table book on WW I warships reveals a number of magazine and gunhouse accidents that destroyed major warships. Britain and Japan seemed to have the most such accidents.

That's a more substantial ship than I'd thought. Looks like a Vosper Thornycroft design.
